This is why DEMS rule this country. They do what they want and dare anyone to challenge them. The Republicans will bitch and moan and do nothing.

If they commit a crime... not because of political differences...

Speaking of in AL, the Coroner of the County is the only one that can arrest the County Sheriff... technically...

I can understand the knee-jerk reaction to making this statement in the heat of the moment. But if anyone really stops to think about this statement and still makes it they are just plain ignorant. Go ahead, hit me with your absolute best shot and convince me that if Ron DeSantis or Gretchen Whitmer were President of the United States during the Covid outbreak they would make the exact same decisions and have the exact same government policies. Then convince me that if Rand Paul or Kamala Harris were President of the United States that they would share the same point of view as to what the purpose and procedures of the FBI should be. Yeah, they might all be slime but that doesn't mean they are all the same slime. Some of them are used car salesman level of slime and some of them are Jeffrey Epstein level of slime.

Progressives will be in this thread defending the governor after posting contrary nonsense in the business threads.

Progressives are addicted to power.

Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.

I have a pretty good comparison I think:

Democrats = Viet Cong/NVA troops/people

Republicans= ARVN troops/ RVN people

That is a pretty good one. I was thinking more along the lines of the old NWA where the Democrats would be Ric Flair pulling a pair of brass knuckles out of his tights the second the referee gets inadvertently knocked out and the Republicans are the baby faces who go ahead and try to make a cover when they though there is no ref available to make a count.

Is it strange? Let’s look back on the last year.

Meanwhile, the governor of Illinois yesterday mandated masks for school in all of Illinois.

We certainly got a version of a Dusty Finish to this past election.

My reference was to legally has this power... IE the governor actually has the power to remove an elected board...

Now, am I surprised, absolutely not... I will go further and say that I will not be surprised if it is found the governor cannot remove an elected board BUT the courts rule in time of emergency the governor's powers are limitless...

We have crossed over unfortunately...

If you can shut down churches for Covid, you can certainly fire a school board for Covid.

And they could come take your house for Covid.

Once the state is in control, you either start shooting people or you knuckle under.

If I were the sheriff of that county I would physically block that governor and her minions from coming into my county.

This is what is so strange to me in all this Covid nonsense... People in general do not even see the government overreach as an issue... Have we really fallen that far where the majority will willingly kneel and forfeit their freedom?

What "the state" sent to the school district ahead of the removal:

quote:

Dear Members of the Board of the Floyd Municipal School District:

It has come to the attention of the Public Education Department that on Monday, July 26, 2021, the Floyd School board held a special meeting and approved the actions listed below:

Masks are optional

Social Distancing is optional, a teacher’s choice

No MERV 13 filtering

Transportation will return to normal

No temperature checks

Surveillance testing is optional for staff, if a staff member wants to be tested, ok, not mandated.

Athletic Teams follow the rules of the teams they visit

Allow parents to pick up and drop off students to the classroom

Resume all classroom activities/parent involvement

As you are aware, the actions above are inconsistent with the requirements put forward by the Public Education Department, in line with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and/or guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics, to protect the health and safety of staff and students, and to ensure continued access to in-person learning that is not disrupted by the spread of the COVID-19 virus. …

By noon on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, the board must take official action at a public meeting to rescind the actions listed above and/or to adopt a course of action that conforms to the published health and safety requirements. …

A failure by the board to provide written confirmation of a vote rescinding the offending course of action and/or adopting a course of action that conforms to the published health and safety requirements by noon on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, or any further violations of COVID-Safe Practices, could result in adverse licensure actions against licensed individuals, suspension of school board governance, and other applicable enforcement actions. Any punitive actions by the board against the Superintendent, other administrators, or school or district staff for following COVID-Safe Practices may result in immediate suspension of school board governance. Furthermore, the District will be subject to ongoing monitoring and site visits to ensure compliance with health protocols.

Daily Wire

While we are debating whether the NM governor can do this, the question is, "will Abbott do the same in Texas when Houston ISD defies his no mask requirement mandate?"

Republicans should start abusing their power to fight abuses of power. That won't lead down a slippery slope.

Slippery slope or not. Either you meet force with force or you decide it’s not so bad to be a communist.

know there was a push in AL awhile back to make the school board an appointed board... luckily voters defeated it... I can only imagine MeeMaw's appointments...

Yes this is a terrible idea at the state level. Appointed Boards would all be "educators," and I think we've all seen how conservative they are.

I have typically been in favor of Council-appointed local School Boards, but as our Hoover City Board is about to vote in a mask mandate my thoughts on that are changing. There's no chance anyone facing re-election in this city would be voting for a mask mandate.
