I think this is a humorously hypocritical point given the NeverTrump phenomenon we’ve seen within the GOP.

Here is the reality. MAGA voters, for the most part actually support ideals more than Trump. The narrative is different of course, but that is the truth.

The part that confuses you and has you coming to the incorrect conclusion is that because MAGA is an idealistic movement, it is not swayed by party. In fact, MAGA/AmericaFirst voters have almost no affection for the GOP itself.

For example, I hate the current leadership of the GOP. The GOP is damn lucky that Democrats are so ridiculously far left.

Hillary Clintion, barely a decade ago, and only a few years prior to the 2016 election, had very fond words for Robert Byrd, a former KKK member, after his passing (had had warm words prior to his passing as well).

Progressives still lined up to vote for her.

Wanna know why?

Because she said what progressives wanted to hear. She pushed the policies they wanted. They'll forgive past misdeeds so long as you push their causes today.

Trump will run, if DeSantis challenges, but, whoever wins that primary will lose. - Trump wins primary, he is too hated by moderates and wine moms to get a majority now. Demos win and Trump bitches and moans with a dozen lawsuits that go nowhere. - DeSantis wins primary, and the 20-25% of New MAGA who follow a man and not a cause will stay home. Democrats win again.

I agree that this will happen.

But you incorrectly blame Trump.

Neither can win. You are too blind to see it.

If you want to move on from Trump, find a candidate that is MAGA/America First.

Trump has proven to not be up the challenge.

Well, he has proven that he had no idea the lengths that his opposition would go to get him out of office, that's for certain.

quote:

The hell he wasn't. Trump walked back commitments on immigration reform under pressure from the Chamber and big tech.

That's because his base, people like me, said absolutely no immigration reform until we have control of our border. Then we can talk about immigration reform. But his own party establishment absolutely would not accept a physical border between the US and Mwexico. Why? The Chamber of Commerce, of course. You can't have criminal illegals driving wages down without allowing them carte blache to walk across the border, you know.

Who are my likeminded folks?

Anti-Trump? I don't know. If you want your position to be clear, just come on out with it. I have done so many times. You seem to want to be cagey about it, and want someone else to define you, so you can drag that suggestion.

quote:

Aren't we all included in with people that agree with us? What are you suggesting here?

I'm suggesting that if the guy who was relentlessly attacked by the republican establishment for 4 years is too establishment for you, then there are no republicans who aren't too establishment for you. Which means that you are either a marxist democrat/republican, which is where most of the resistance to Trump as a president and a candidate has come from, or you are a libertarian type that only serves to get marxist democrats elected. Like I said, define yourself. State your position. If your only position is opposition to Trump, then just say so. Then you can explain why and how you believe what you are going to get is any better than what Trump brought.

Agreed, we just had a poll here in TD.

There are more board members here that wouldn't support Trump if he was the nominee than board members who wouldn't support DeSantis if he were the nominee.

But it's the Trump supporters who have cult-like behavior...

Maybe the worst candidate in history is your best example?

Because she's a life-long Democrat, played up the "first female President" angle, and is married to a former President who many consider one of the best in history?

JFC my man. At least make this challenging for me.

We're talking about grifting, not getting elected.

Popular vote > electoral vote.

And you think if she had supported a border wall, been against climate change, spoke out against intersectionality and CRT, supported the second amendment, etc. she still would have been the darling of the left?

Your worst candidate in history received 65,853,514 votes. Jug Ears Obama before her received 65,915,795 votes. Whodathunk the American people were just pining away for Joseph Biden to the tune of 81,283,501 votes, right? Not a smidgen of corruption, right?

Yeah, on this board. Sorta blows the claim that this is some sort of Cultish Trump echo chamber out of the water.

No. She'd have been called out as a liar. Like Trump would've if he'd pretended to be a progressive and a socialist.

Next.

Voter turnout rates were more than three points lower, even with a contentious election in 2016.

Nice try.

How do you calculate voter turnout rates?

Ooof, what an ignorant and shitty take. Wanting America to succeed has nothing to do with Trump, and everything to do with wanting private individuals being able to achieve without the shackles of government.
