It's not political. It's cultural. There is a big difference.

Let's just imagine a commercial with a bunch of inner city gangs shooting each other with the tag line "is this the best a black can get" or a commercial with a bunch of women falsely testifying before the Senate on a SCOTUS nominee with the tag line is this the best a woman can get. Do you really think that men are just such sensitive snowflakes that they can't take a little humor (is that what this commercial is supposed to be?) This was a really dumb move by Gillette and I'd like to see a photo of the ad team that thought this was a smart move.

In the current discourse? No, there is not.

See: Kavanaugh hearings.

It is most certainly political.

Culture is politics.

Just because our cultural shift has spilled into the political climate, does not mean that every single instance of cultural shift is political. It's a Venn Diagram. This commercial falls in the not political yes cultural portion of that diagram. There's nothing about lawmakers or government. It isn't political.

Wrong.

Politics is culture. But culture is not necessarily politics. It spans far more.

The only reason this is even being brought up on a political board is because the OP is rustled by it. It doesn't line up with his cultural views and he is terrified of the shift taking place.

More accurately politics is downstream from culture.

To assert they are independent is pathetic

Whatever it is it's divisive. Basically just trying to piss men off which in turn makes them pissed off at the world and they'll probably blame women for it which is prevalent on this site at least (seriously, it is) so basically just a big push to get people riled up- yippee GO GILLETTE!

See I disagree. They aren't trying to piss off their customer base. They are trying to show two sides of things. A good side and a bad. Then the viewer has to decide which they fall under. In no way are they implying that all men are bad.

Regardless, after 30 years of buying Gillette products I'm done with the company. Good move dipshits.

They are preaching about 'The best a man can get', but I noticed there were no scenes of men opening jars.

Which obliterates your point.

Wrong. Again, the Kavanaugh hearings were less than half a year ago. You have to be wilfully blind to not see the correlation between messages purveyed by politicians and cultural reinforcement (and vice versa).

A commercial doesn't have to have lawmakers and government expressly mentioned therein to be political. In fact, nuancing the two is marketing 101. The silly thing here is, there's really not a whole lot of nuance necessary here to make the political connection. You have to go out of your way to try not to do so (or have a fundamental misunderstanding of how marketing works).
