So does this mean all D1 athletes can have Gofundme campaigns now? If not I see a ton of lawsuits.

quote:

After her parents learned she has a girlfriend, Emily Scheck, 19, a college sophomore and Division I athlete, was disowned by them in August, right before the start of the school year. She said she was left with just $20 to her name.

quote:

“Emily Scheck can retain her eligibility and continue to receive GoFundMe donations that assist her with living and educational expenses,” the association shared via Twitter on Friday. “NCAA staff worked with Canisius College to provide guidance that the fundraiser can continue with school monitoring and will continue to assist as needed. NCAA rules and waiver precedent allow a school to assist a student-athlete with a fundraiser after a significant life event occurs.”

All the BAMA football players will be having significant life changing events, some grew up with no air conditioning.

Wow ... it really is time to just dismantle the NCAA. It's become such an activist organization. It feels like every time we spend thousands on Club Memberships and seats we're just contributing more to things we would raise hell about if it were our tax money they were spending.

Hard to avoid it these days. It's everywhere.

How can they even justify this.

Do the lesbians still get to shower and dress with the straight chicks?

man is this a can of worms for the NCAA. I can see every big recruit in football suddenly needing donations for his cause.

sounds like the parents won out, don't have to worry about it

If I had kids and no money for college I might set up a fake scenario, then have a tearful reconciliation about the time they graduate.

Yep, and as usual, the NCAA will selectively choose who will and who will not be punished.

This is total horseshite. I'm sorry the girl has shitty parents, but what's to stop every other athlete from having a "life changing event".

Reading the story, I don't have a problem with the exception. The can of worms is indeed open though.

After his San Francisco gay parents who had adopted him as a baby, learned he was a staunch Conservative, John Doe, 19, a college sophomore and Division I walk-on athlete, was disowned by them in August, right before the start of the school year. He said he was left with just $20 to his name.

How would they rule on that?

As someone with two children, I’ve never understood disowning your kids because you found out they were gay.

While I might not agree with the parents disowning the kid, I highly doubt it is a matter of "hey I am gay" and "you are disowned"...

I say this because I have friends that went through this with their son and the son would not respect their wishes when it came to visiting and they told him not to come back until he could... However, he tells everyone that his family has disowned him...
