You can't dishonorably discharge someone for insubordination.

I'm not reading eight pages of comments. Has SFP been here to explain why he's the smartest person in the room and this Admiral has more authority than drumpf yet?

Insubordination, not treason. She should be fired.

No you can't. That's reserved for serious crimes like murder, rape, assault, desertion, treason, espionage, etc. Failure to display a picture of POTUS and SECDEF don't rise to any of those charges.

Dishonorable Discharge

The worst form of discharge a service member can receive is a dishonorable discharge. It is often given along with a stint in military prison.
The type of offenses warranting a dishonorable discharge include:

Murder,
Fraud,
Desertion,
Treason,
Espionage, and
Sexual assault.

The consequences from a dishonorable discharge include:

Lose VA benefits,
Lose civilian rights,
Disqualified from federal employment,
Barred from owning fire arms (18 U.S.C. § 922(g)), and
May not qualify for civilian government benefits (unemployment, federal student loans, etc.).

There is the possibility of receiving some VA medical benefits, but they have to be petitioned for and the matter reviewed by officials at the VA.

Refusing to hang a picture of POTUS is not grounds for a dishonorable discharge. YOU don't know what you're talking about.

Just internet research confirms Tchefuncte Tiger is correct. Insubordination however, would fall under a bad conduct discharge.

...and there's no way a VADM is going to get one of those for this infraction.

Look, I don't believe that not hanging a picture up rises to the level of a dishonorable or bad conduct discharge. But with regards to the UCMJ, depending on the severity and impacts, you can absolutely receive a dishonorable discharge for insubordination or failing to follow a lawful order.

In this case, the charge would likely be "contempt toward officials" which could be a dishonorable discharge for enlisted troops or dismissal for officers. Again I don't think this offense would rise to that level, but in general it is possible.
