These jobs are open to women. Time to get with the times, and discuss things that actually matter on this topic.

That's my point.

So saying "well fat men get a chance" is just wrong.

That was a separate point in retort to something else.

I would bet he/she/it works in one of the Castro brothers offices in San Antonio and thinks she/he/it is smarter than everybody studying policies from a book. She/he/it was with HER; and thinks her warped progressive politics are so above everyone that does not think like a progtard democrat.

She prolly looks like Loshie's GF; but her boobs are not as nice.

Yeah, that's what I figured. "Selection" so you can hang out with others and not get in the way.

You keep bring that typo up but its irrelevant.

Lol.

It wasn't a fricking typo, bro. You tried to call me out and failed.

If she passed all the tests / standards that all other SEALs had to, why would this be an issue, as she should be able to handle the task?

Now, if they lower standards for women, then that's a problem.

The point is opening them to women is meaningless if women can't qualify UNLESS you lower the standards so that they can. And there is no denying that around this country in the last 30 years or so we have seen a serious drop in requirements so that a number of folks can qualify for jobs that they previously couldn't.

In some jobs, that doesn't really matter, or at least isn't a life or death decision, but in the world of the military in general and special operators specifically that's dangerous.

Imagine for example, if the Navy changed their regulation on eyesight for aviators (right now you have to either have 20/20 vision or must be able to have your vision corrected to 20/20) Imagine instead if the Navy said "this isn't fair to far sighted people, let's open these jobs up to people who only have 20/10 vision" or whatever. Would that be prudent? Why not?

In the military EVERY decision should be "does this make our nation safer?" not "is this fair?" Anything less is dangerous.

Master Sgt. Israel Del Toro, a tactical air control party airman who miraculously returned to service after a roadside bomb in Afghanistan left him with severe burns, will receive the Pat Tillman Award for Service, ESPN announced Wednesday.

Del Toro will receive the award from former Daily Show host Jon Stewart at the 25th ESPYS award show on July 12, which will be televised on ABC. The Pat Tillman Foundation established the award in 2014 to commemorate the football player who left the NFL to become an Army Ranger after the Sept. 11 attacks.

When his Humvee hit a bomb in 2005, Del Toro suffered third-degree burns over 80 percent of his body and lost most of his fingers. He was given a 15 percent chance of survival, was in a coma for nearly three months, and when he woke up, was told he might never walk or breathe without a respirator again, and wouldn't be able to re-enlist

See you are not in the military or even connected with it. That is a completely disgraceful and spit in the face of Airmen KIA or wounded in action.

Did MSgt Del Toro just hang out with others and not get in the way or pretend to be military as you said TACPs do.

You are a coward go burn in hell you POS

You'll like some of these for the sake of injecting reality into the thread.

Current world record for women in the 400. 47.6.
In 2016, a high school freshman male broke that by 2.5 seconds. 33 boys total ran faster.

Dozens of HS boys annually break the women’s Mile Record which has held since 1976.

There are men in nearly every gym in America that can break the women’s records for most lifts.

The gap is huge between the sexes.

No it isn't. It's a knock on you and you alone, for running your mouth about "selection" for something like TACP.

He did his job.

Leigh Ann Hester is someone else who did her job.

So, you're going with the old, "they decided to be stupid so we can't discuss it being stupid anymore" line or argument?

Then we shouldn't lower the standards. If they make it, great. If they don't, cool.

They already did.

The women who got selected for ranger school passed the minimum selection standard but were selected above men who performed at a higher level. Men who absolutely would have passed at a higher rate.

Of course that's true. people don't realize an elite operator IS an Olympic level athlete in their own right.

You would be hard pressed to , for example, find a woman who could survive the drown proofing that SEALS must endure , and that's only one aspect of the training.

And that's just the physical part. When I went through Ranger school, the physical was hard, but the mental , that's where they get you. Because the physical aspect drains away your ability to think clearly and realize that mental games are being played , so everyone gets a little irrational. Now if you have less strength reserves to begin with, that will just be harder for you.

That and they put gag orders on the men who went through with them as well as the instructors.

Can't let that they were told by higher ups to push them through get out.

Way I see it is like this:

Don't change any of the requirements. If they pass, they're in. Doesn't matter their gender, and debates regarding IF women can do it or not is irrelevant. The SEAL team program is so small individuals can be weighed on merits instead of large scale debates on genetics and physiology.

If it ends up forcing people to make changes to the actual requirements, then I'm against. It's not "unfair" if the requirements mean a 100% dropout rate for women. Hell, the dropout rate NOW is 83%. That's a LOT of dudes who thought they were cut out for it who clearly weren't (and I'm not knocking them - I'd be washed out before breakfast on day one).

When I was 45 in the Army I weighed 165lbs

Was in the 1000 pound club for the Bench/Dead/Squat

Ran 2 miles in sub 12 and could still ~ 55 sec 400m.

I would have failed Ranger school with flying colors.

To put it in perspective. What they've done with these courses in relation to women is roughly like this.

Imagine having a school with a minimum GMAT requirement of 600.

They can only take 100 applications and the top 200 applications are all above 700.

So, they take 95 of them, then reach down and grab 5 people who scored 600s.

That's how they are "not lowering standards" for accepting women into these courses.
