I don’t pretend to know the story.

But I do think public suspicion about deaths near Yemen at a time when the administration has been (until very recently) trying to downplay Houthi impacts on American interests to avoid growing the conflict is reasonable, no? The idea of course being that reframing whatever happened as a mere accident prevents immediate demands for head on collision with Iran. Obviously that type of narrative or cover up has a lot of precedent.

Perhaps its naive and the SEAL community would have the truth on the street quickly if that were really the case. Thoughts?

Calm your tits.

Discussing something this tragic on a message board isn't disrespecting them.

We have a traitorous Government that is ACTIVELY trying to fk good guys like this over.

We the people have every right to be concerned and make people aware of tragedies like this.

Their wives and kids ain't reading a stupid Political message forum and suddenly becoming offended.

Well, they weren't.

You came across like a dick wanting to tell people what they can and can't talk about.

Clearly I made a mistake by posting.

Meh, you can’t worry about the responses or downvotes you get. It’s a free discussion message board and people are all over the place.

Still struggling to understand why valuable American lives were put at risk here when the crappy boat they were trying to board could have been stopped or sunk with no risk to our people. Sounds like our guys died because the higher ups were more concerned about the welfare of the shiteheads on the rouge vessel.

Public suspicion is beyond reasonable. Suspicion is not the same as speculation.

Suspicion: Well, that's the official story, but we may never know the truth.

Speculation: That's bullshite, this is a coverup.

I don't agree that it's wildly harmful or disrespectful on this format, but it can get pretty silly.

I watched the first few minutes of his brief. Climbing a cable ladder to board an arrested vessel while yourself carrying maybe 100 pounds of gear - then a big wave smashes into you and knocks you into the ocean. The ocean wave is powerful enough that it compares to a man swatting a gnat.

So the gentleman is very forcibly knocked into the ocean, stunned or maybe unconscious, weighed down by 100 pounds of gear. It's easy to see how this would cause people to be lost.

Do our procedures for doing this particular skill task need review and possible revision? A person under his own power climbing while being weighed down by gear? Is there a way to change that dynamic for the better? Could we introduce some kind of power tool or robotic to make that climbing task more easy?

And even if so, there's probably no power tool that can overcome the power of a large ocean wave.

I don't know. All I'm doing is thinking about how the skill task might be better and more safely accomplished, because on its face, I totally understand how dangerous it is.
