At this very moment. As I type. You can see it on WREG news channel 3.

ETA: I am watching a live feed. None of the "workers" seem to know what to do. They are standing around scratching their heads and asses at the same time.

Can I buy it?

I would literally give the City of Memphis 3-5 BTC for the statue, provided they store it somewhere before I can replace it.

Progs need to get their wins in anyway they can, even if it's just useless symbolism.

Everyone else will enjoy changes that actually affect our lives.

They are about to pick that up with a truck crane

I hope that crane falls over.

You will never find a bigger admirer of Forrest than me but the man should be buried in Elmwood Cemetery. That is where he wanted to be buried with his soldiers and that is where he originally was buried.

I got to agree with this one. Look I am MAGA as all get-out. My ancestor fought in the 8th Louisiana regiment. I am totally against taking down Confederate statues with the exception of Nathan Bedford Forrest. The man started the KKK, I don't see anything redeemable about him.

This one I can understand, taking into account his relationship with the KKK.

He liberated my hometown from the vengeful command of a Russian national who became a general in the Union Army. The path he took is, to this day, 'Forrest Street'.

Definitely not the best fella otherwise, though.

You are astonishingly ignorant. Nathan Bedford Forrest did not start the KKK. If you cannot keep up with the conversation then please remain silent.

Not the founder but a Grand Wizard.

Shocking that a majority African American city wouldn't want a statue of him.

Then you are ignorant.

His story is one of redemption. Read some more about him.

Slave trader before the war, founder of the KKK after, and the slaughtering of surrendering black solders at the Battle of Fort Pillow. If anyone deserved to be called "white devil", it would be he.

But after that things get a little tricky, because he is generally considered to be one of the most interesting and brilliant characters of the Civil War by CW buffs. From illiteracy to one of the most successful Generals of the Confederacy.

Why doesn’t anyone actually read history?

‘After only a year as Grand Wizard, in January 1869, faced with an ungovernable membership employing methods that seemed increasingly counterproductive, Forrest issued KKK General Order Number One: "It is therefore ordered and decreed, that the masks and costumes of this Order be entirely abolished and destroyed".[68]

In August 1874, Forrest "volunteered to help ‘exterminate’ those men responsible for the continued violence against the blacks". After the murder of four blacks by a lynch mob when they were arrested for defending themselves at a BBQ, Forrest wrote to Tennessee Governor John C. Brown, offering "to exterminate the white marauders who disgrace their race by this cowardly murder of Negroes".[69]
