My Son’s Freshman Orientation At Virginia Tech Was Full Of Leftist Propaganda

Good story for those interested in the direction of higher ed.
Virginia Tech is considered "right of middle." amongst colleges and universities, so this level of clown is surprising.
via the Federalist
Like many other women, I just sent my youngest child to college. I am so proud of him and his decision to join the Army ROTC and study engineering. He will be attending a revered Virginia institution known for its military Corps of Cadets program.
The centerpiece of the campus is the military parade field featuring beautiful pylons bearing the school’s founding principles: words such as “honor,” “duty,” “brotherhood,” and “ut prosim” (that I may serve). The war memorial also bears the names of all known cadets who have given their lives for our nation since World War I.
Because of this, I was shocked to experience what I can only describe as extreme and overtly leftist propaganda spewed at our children’s orientation. The opening “University Welcome” event for students and parents separated families immediately in the auditorium.
Every person on the stage looked exactly as you would expect them to identify. At that point, I noticed all the new students’ badges contained not just their names but also their preferred pronouns because the school had made it part of registration. The heavy-handed diversity lecture that followed seemed rather tame in comparison. Parents left the venue in shock.
“Parents, don’t be shocked if your kid comes home changed,” they intoned in the other room — this to the hundreds of parents, including myself, who had saved and sacrificed to send our children to this “top educational institution.” The attitude they conveyed was one of how “privileged” we should feel that they selected our children to attend such a fine and prestigious university. Lucky us.

Should have told them his pronouns were “your honor, hizzoner, and Imonner”

I would have brought my child home.

My daughter was assigned a White Privilege assignment while still in HS. Anti American Progressive AgitProp is the norm and should surprise no one. Tell your son to challenge it in all his classes and watch him get crushed. Higher education is an uncontested Progressive playground and Orwell is now just real world stuff.

This is happening at most colleges now. The article is a call to fight back and remind the state institutions that they work for the taxpayer.
The University of Michigan has 300 staff members assigned to diversity. The Obama administration did a lot of damage in funding programs like this. When you hear of colleges having financial trouble in the Trump administration - a lot of it is that they have put so much money into crap like this so recently and are unwilling to abandon it.

Please tell me your son didn’t abide by having a fricking pronoun on his name tag. frick their pronouns. I will never ever address anyone by their made up pronoun.

The Orientation Program at most universities typically fall under the Office of Admissions or Student Affairs, which are the primary bastions of this SJW crap.
Funny story...one of my colleagues was a guest speaker for a class of students in the student affairs administration program. He asked them all to introduce themselves at the beginning, and they all gave their pronouns when they did.
At the end of the class, they asked what advice he'd give them about working in higher ed. He said "if you ever apply for a job outside of student affairs, don't introduce yourself with your pronouns."
They were not pleased

When I went back to UT to get an MBA (4 years ago) I had to fill out a questionnaire to tell them my preferred pronouns. I checked every single box and hit "submit." I'm so woke, I'm all those things at once.

Not sure if they actually instituted it this year but last year LSU announced that students would be allowed to put any name they want on their Student ID's in case the student didn't "identify" with their real name.
I can only imagine the chaos that would have prompted when I was in school. My name would have been Fuc King Badass or something appropriate.

Agreed. Student Affairs is a bastion for this crap. A lot of gender studies and psychology majors end up there. The problem is, as far as the student experience goes, they control almost everything outside of academics on a typical college campus.
When I was at LSU working on my doctorate in higher education administration, I hated my student affairs classes. There was one professor in particular that loved to throw out white privilege. I did what I had to do (lie and be generic) to get through his classes.

Welcome to the party.
You're late.
I can't speak for SEC, but *every* state school in the Big 10, Pac 12, Big 12, and ACC are controlled by the political left.
If you're going to go to college today, you have to take a look at this list first:

Virginia Tech was a poor choice.

Can I mix my pronouns? Can my pronouns be, for example: He, hers, Tater, and Home Skillet?

I still remember the address to the parents of incoming freshmen on my first day at Centenary College back in the dark ages.
The dean said two important things to the parents before they left us and headed back home:
'Be assured that the faculty and staff here care about your children. We care, BUT WE DO NOT CODDLE.
We also discourage your children returning home to visit you until Christmas break. It is time for them to learn responsibility and self reliance.'
Things have apparently changed.

I would never have let my parents attend any kind of "welcome" event because I was a grown arse man. Maybe stop coddling him, tell him not to be a sheep, and he'll turn out okay.
Why the F is he not at state or another SEC school?
