The fact that they have a bigger heart than you - you must be the black sheep of the family. I take it your family members probably refer to you as the “Trump/MAGA voter uncle” that they put up with. Every family has that outcast they’re ashamed of

My parents are in their 80s and pretty much watch CNN and still believe the news bc that is what they grew up doing.
They do not like Trump but we don't talk much politics so that helps

My mom is very liberal and has terminal TDS. If Dad were still alive, he would be the same for sure.
Mom used to try REALLY HARD to get me to engage in political discourse, but I refused to bite. It's the only thing upon which we adamantly disagree, but she feels so strongly about it that she can't leave well enough alone.
Last time I engaged was in 2020 when she basically forced me into the conversation. I still did my best to walk away altogether but she wouldn't let it go and I unloaded. Things just haven't quite been the same, but she also hasn't pushed hard at all since then. She doesn't understand how I can support a "dictator and racist Republicans", but I can't take seriously the opinions of someone who takes the opinions of murderin' Joe and Mika as absolute gospel.

That, right there, is enough to tell me they have been sold a bill of goods.
In sales jargon, they are what is called “a lay down sale.”
Love them dearly and make sure their assets are not subsequently signed over to a leftist organization posing as a humanitarian group.
