I know I will be criticized for spliting from the Nixion thread, but you guys lining up to pay homage to Nixon are so wrong that I have to present a counter argument.

Nixon closed the gold window basically ending the Gold Standard forever. That's where the 34 trillion in debt began, with the removal of a gold standard as a constraint against spending and reckless federal reserve policy.

Basically nixon bought the first pack of cigarettes in 1971, and now we have terminal cancer.

Ironically, in the same year, Nixon Basically awakened our Greatest nemesis and eventual slave master Red China, who until then was an isolatist backwater ... basically a North Korea on a larger scale... and very content to be left alone.

If you want to know what a true disaster Nixon was, visit this site.

Nixon destroyed this country. He refused to cut spending and instead opened pandoras box and the rest is history.

Nobody was building him up. It’s like every thread you come into your takeaway is way off.

Nixon was progressive.

The Nixon shock was a series of economic measures undertaken by United States President Richard Nixon in 1971, in response to increasing inflation, the most significant of which were wage and price freezes, surcharges on imports, and the unilateral cancellation of the direct international convertibility of the United States dollar to gold.

Activist Government.

In hindsight, an argument can be made against every big policy action of every leader.
We would be much better off to return to the times when only landowners could vote.
The full long-term impact of policy cannot be predicted.

The idea of opening up China was to expose them to Capitalism in the hopes that it would collapse the Communist regime. This strategy worked to perfection in the USSR. The CCP recognized they were soon to follow and pivoted to a form of Fascism where the CCP creates/sponsors corporations which funnel profits back to the CCP while doing their bidding.

Nixon was a mess. He was a quaker and most thought he was Asexual. His policies reflect a confused individual.

Probably the most neurotic president weve had.
