Neither a church nor a synagogue nor a mosque is a state actor in this country. Their actions are not constrained by the Establishment Clause.

I do not have any problem with the fact that this is a Muslim practice. As spaniel initially indicated, this practice is not inherently different from the ringing of church bells by a Christian denomination. (I hated to see him crawfish later in the thread from some decent legal analysis).

My problem with this situation is the fact that they were granted a variance to the noise ordinance. Are Christian churches being allowed a similar variance, in order to blast their bells and chimes at a higher volume?

I do not want to be awaken an hour earlier every morning by superstitious caterwauling outside my window, regardless of whether the caterwaul takes the form of a Muslim adhan or a CD of Toby Keith singing Rock of Ages.

The essential and ugly truth is that Islam and Christianity are based on a polar, 'First Premise'; and as such, are a matter of Subjective choice.

Christian Theology asserts that Jesus is THE "only begotten", and that "no man cometh to the Father but by the Son". I.e., that the philosophic basis of Christianity is that no matter what people believe and do, perfection is an unattainable state...and that power will corrupt even the most 'righteous' and wise that Humanity may offer. And given that "a little leavening leaveneth the whole lump"...disaster is assured. And that no tainted individual will ever attain perfect Love; I.e., unity with God. Such unity must be attainted by Faith alone, "an not of works, lest any should boast"; meaning that one's Ego would ultimately taint one's love.

Islam believes that Muhammad is superior in Religious Status to Jesus Christ; though they do acknowledge that Jesus was a "Prophet". A Prophet that serves to pave the way for Muhammad's ultimate 'Rule' (in the form of a coming, World Caliphate). But certainly not "Only Begotten Son of God" with power to forgive sin and enable perfected Love/Unity with the Father. A CRITICAL aspect of Muhammad's Theology, is that promotion of said (His) Ideology, can and must be served "by the sword", if or when such becomes necessary. Jesus' Theology is again polar; as Jesus demanded that Disciples "turn their cheek", bear their 'cross', and gain treasure in Heaven (next life). However, did also said that in his next (Second Coming)...that He would "not come to send peace, but with a sword". And that the culmination of His return would result in a 'government' "ruled with a rod of iron". Go figure.

These two polar Beliefs are incompatible. It's a binary choice of Belief. And as history bears witness, Islam is mandated by it's Founder to serve and promote the (destined) World Caliphate. And to the degree that Islam becomes numerically superior in society, they impose their Theocratic form of Governance. The subject of this Thread is an example of such.

Both Christianity and Islam agree on one (prophetic) scenario...such being that during Jesus' return (Second Coming) and Muhammad's rise to power in the form of a World Caliphate...there will be societal upheaval and disaster on a scale heretofore unrecorded in Humanity's known historical record.

IMO, as times become more insecure, people will rally to the only hope that exists...such being their Faith. Christians to Christianity...Muslims to Muhammad. The likely outcome of this desperate allegiance, is easily predictable, given polar Ideological bases.
