A candidate running for office that is also a real leader and really wants what is best for his or her country would take a step back and support the government during a crisis. If he or she wanted to keep his or her name out there he or she could still have daily briefings after the President's briefings. However, he or she should reinforce what the President said and maybe offer some small suggestions of additional measures the government could do to help and encourage his or her followers to do everything they can to help. That way he or she stays in the public light but doesn't politicize a crisis during the crisis. There will be a time for politicizing it, but now is not the time for that. Of course liberals do not believe in doing what is best for the country and they just believe in "never letting a crisis go to waste."
