NPR is unfairly maligned on this board, but this place leans very far right.

You must be kidding, right? I listen to NPR and it is well done, but it is VERY liberal. Don't believe me? How about:

Former NPR Director discusses media's liberal bias

quote:

Most reporters and editors are liberal — a now-dated Pew Research Center poll found that liberals outnumber conservatives in the media by some 5 to 1, and that comports with my own anecdotal experience at National Public Radio. When you are liberal, and everyone else around you is as well, it is easy to fall into groupthink on what stories are important, what sources are legitimate and what the narrative of the day will be. This may seem like an unusual admission from someone who once ran NPR, but it is borne of recent experience.

quote:

Over the course of this past year, I have tried to consume media as they do and understand it as a partisan player. It is not so hard to do. Take guns. Gun control and gun rights is one of our most divisive issues, and there are legitimate points on both sides. But media is obsessed with the gun-control side and gives only scant, mostly negative, recognition to the gun-rights sides.

You might have a point. ABC news had Drudge as their home page on all their computers until management found out and made them switch to ABC as their home page.

AP was good until about 1960. Then it went left wing. It's still left wing.

People may scoff but:

Al Jazeera
BBC
CNN International
NPR

Scan all of them for the same story and you will get most of the truth.

I would like to interject to say that in 2018, news shouldn't be anyone's "source". It should simply be something that provides you a heads up on what's being talked about today.

Relying on a 3rd party who is merely a journalist to supply you with the information while making no individual effort yourself would be a failure in the best news environments. Today, it's just dumb.

There are exceedingly few stories you can't go look at the core info yourself.

And, people need to learn to understand how sourcing works and be far more skeptical than they are.

Most half decent journalists, even if biased as frick, will basically tell you they're full of shite in their own stories if you simply read close enough.

From cutting off quotes, to how they characterize their source, they have many tells.

Use your brains people.
