You have it bass ackwards. Work through the winter and let department pay you. You'd just be cooped up in the house drunk otherwise. Take off in the summer and go fishing, camping, etc. while weather is nicer. Cops leaving now so they don't have to put up with the BS and be in the middle of this mess.
