Kueng, Thao sentenced for violating George Floyd's rights
By FOX 9 Staff

quote:

Kueng was sentenced Wednesday morning to three years in federal prison and two years of supervised release. He is ordered to surrender himself on or before Oct. 4. Thao, who held back bystanders during Floyd's killing, received 3 1/2 years (42 months) in prison for violating Floyd's civil rights and two years of supervised release. He's also been ordered to surrender himself on or before Oct. 4.

Scape goats. Punished to expiate the sins of our society.

These men committed no crime. They were employed by us, the people, to deal with the scum of society and to keep us safe. They were placed in an impossible situation and, frankly, dealt very humanely with a drugged out and resisting George Floyd for most of the encounter.

Then they followed the orders of the senior officer on the scene, who acted callously, and even pleaded with him to ease up.

Now we are sending them to jail because we don’t have the balls to stand up for the truth.

Move over Drew Brees. We have a federal judge who wants to take a knee.

The whole thing was a shite show, and plenty of blame for the detritus that turned it into a cause celebre and an indictment of all cops, but this part of it holds no water for me.

So let’s talk about that. This was not a “code red” situation.

This was not a case where these cops watched as Chauvin beat on Floyd (picture Rodney King).

This is a case where Floyd acted like a crazed, drug-addled hysterical convulsant. In spite of efforts to actually give Floyd time to breathe and to sit calmly, he continued to shout and fight and forced himself back out of the cop car.

It’s also clear that Chauvin did not actually choke or cause harm to Floyd, only that he failed to sit him back up when he stopped fighting.

It’s within the realm of possible assumptions that these 2 cops simply allowed Chauvin to make to call on whether it was more appropriate to maintain firm control over this drug convulsant, or whether to trust that his fighting was done. It’s still not at all clear that there was ANY action that could have been taken to save George Floyd’s life.

Yes, an argument could be made that these 2 officers could have at least TRIED to force Chauvin to release Floyd, and they could have sat him up, but to what effect?

It hardly passes the test of guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

I don’t disagree. This is a far more opaque case than the movie.

My issue, though, is that I would not absolve these guys IF their hesitation to intercede were only that Chauvin was the superior officer. If they truly believed the case required his actions, so be it. It seems they didn’t, though, yet still deferred to him when they judged his actions to be excessive.

That’s not the same thing as saying they should have overriden him. It is only a comment on their possible justification.

I reserve the word “hate” for situations and circumstance. Very few people get that special descriptor.

Congratulations

That’ll ensure police recruitment is in the tank in that area for years.

Good luck with your crime wave, law abiding citizens.

All 3 of those cops, and any others complicit in the killing of Floyd needs to be punished.

This is not about Floyd and hoe bad he was but rather about how cops treat people.

So? Isit wrong to want police to do their job and support them being held accountable when they abuse their power?

One has to be a fool to go into police work in a community with blacks these days if you're white.

Whose abuse leads to more deaths: police or rogue DA's and judges and Democrats in charge?
