Say what you want about Jerry Jones (and I have said a lot), he won't put up with crap that he knows will tarnish the star. (Well, other than his own management of the actual football stuff.)

ESPN: Michael Bennett stands on sideline for national anthem in Cowboys debut

quote:

In his first game with the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night, Michael Bennett stood on the sideline during the playing of the national anthem for the first time this season.

The Cowboys acquired Bennett in a trade from the New England Patriots during the bye week, and the national anthem was among the discussions as the deal was being consummated.

quote:

With the Patriots, Bennett remained in the locker room for the anthem before going to the sideline. He had the same approach with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2018.

Bennett can probably read between the lines and realize that if Dallas cuts him, he is done.

Getting flipped from Philly to New England to Dallas in short order over being a malcontent is a career limiting deal.

Have never been a fan of the cowboys or their fans, but I have a lot of respect for Jerry Jones. Runs a tight ship and doesn't take anyone's shite, especially Goodell's.

He's on his last leg of his career so if he were to frick this up, he'd be out of a job more than likely.

Once he convinced the owners to forego taking less money from the TV networks and reopen bidding (that's when Fox got into the business), he made them filthy rich beyond filthy rich. So they may not like him personally but they're thankful (in their own way).

Yet another lesson in leadership. You don’t have to be a pussy. Stand up for what is right.

I don’t even think Jerry is trying to be patriotic. It’s just common sense to not let someone be selfish and be a distraction or garner negative news headlines.

Wasnt this the cuck that was in the middle of his whole team kneeling and armlocked recently?

Yehhh, Bennett figured out no one wants him and his rhetoric is stale. Trying to stay employed at this point.

I can be fairly critical of him. I was a "You don't fire Tom Landry" guy, and it only got worse after he "fired" Jimmy Johnson. Once I read some accounts about how Jimmy really was 50% of the problem, I cut him some slack. Once I watched Jerry's episode of "A Football Life" (admittedly, a fluff piece), I got an appreciation for how much he put everything he had on the line to buy the Cowboys before sports franchises were such a big thing.

As far as the "group kneel", I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that this was a "get it over with and move on" thing. Show that he was not oblivious or indifferent to the issue, but was not willing to let it drag on ad infinitum.

I still wish he'd hire a real GM that would fire Garrett.
