MFA / Something Close

I read a lot of anti MFA posts on here. Most book down to, “how much will this cost me?” It’s a completely fair question. My political leanings aren’t in question here, and even I’m not admittedly fully on board at this point. However, let’s just give the benefit of the doubt for a moment...what if this program ended up costing you less than your own plan. Meaning, your bottom line at the end of the month, you paid out overall (taxes and premiums) less and had more money in your pocket. Would you still be against it?

If you like doctor, you can keep your doctor

Yes, because the quality of healthcare would decline. High end providers would pull out of the system and go cash-only

Is that an issue with Medicare? I honestly don’t know since I’m not on it...

I would rather have good health care.

Yes...I don’t want it to be illegal for me to get treatment even if I can afford it when I’m past the age designated by the government.

Fair point I guess, but who are these high-end providers who won’t participate with 95-98% of the insured population?

GET THE HELL OUT OF MY HEALTH CARE !!!
allow competition across state lines and imported medicines and go away, the free market will dictate the companies with best value policies with good coverages for the money will do well while insurance companies who dont offer affordable policies with good coverages will go out of business

I would still be against it, for 2 reasons
1) I would be worried about the quality of the HC system. Even if costs go down, I wouldn’t want to see increased wait times, reduction in innovation, or narrowing of types of care available
2) The deadweight loss associated with the massive increase in income taxes and payroll taxes needed to fund the program would be quite bad for the economy

Free market and health care don’t mix. We have a few market now, how’s that working?
Posted on 2/18/20 at 6:36 pm to CajunLiberal
Nothing the government does ever cost anywhere near what they project it will. It is always more, a lot more, because once the government has it they give contracts to their friends, the quality goes down, and the costs go up.
Also, everyone who can afford to will go to the cash doctors and still get better care.

Just fine for me.

Yes. The government is atrocious at everything it does. Everything.

I am sure you are not the only self-described liberal, possibly one with a decent job that has employer-provided health insurance, who are not entirely onboard with the gov't takeover of health insurance. So that's another reason libs are freaking out over 2020.

It will ultimately bite everybody in the arse. You'll get crappy treatment, long wait times for appointments, wind up having to buy supplemental insurance that may partially cover urgent treatment by physicians who refuse to accept MFA and that, in the end, you will end up having to come out of pocket to make up the difference.
Plus, the money is being run through the Swamp and we know how the good the critters are at prudently spending our money. So, if you make a really good salary, MFA will bite you in the arse again after your taxes continue to rise, and rise again.

You’re not getting it. It will be illegal to treat a person past a certain age for things like joint replacement, organ transplant, etc.

Those who figure out they make more opting out of being government providers and just taking cash. There aren’t enough physicians to service the current population as is. If enough decline to participate, MFA is DOA.
See the number of physicians not accepting Medicaid, as an example.

maybe you should learn something about what you are talking about before making such stupid comments
insurance companies are not allowed to sell policies to customers of another state unless they open an office in that state
prescription drugs are not allowed to be imported into the united states unless the have a special exemption and there are no american suppliers with an alternative supply to treat the same issues
by design, there is no free market with insurance policies and drugs in america that allows the free market to work

That's called naivety.

Beyond unlikely.

Yes. I do not want solely the government or a single government agency who also funds research to be judge, jury, and executioner of what gets paid for, what medicines are allowed to be used, what surgeries are acceptable, when end of life care is allowed, and how my day to day life is going to run based on their politically-influenced whims.
Competition > single influencer, especially in medicine.
