In the last few years, border patrol officers have been killed by Mexicans, a US Marine was held for a weapons charge for several months for mistakenly crossing the border. 100,000 migrants attempted to illegally cross the Southern border just last month and Mexico did nothing to stop them. Now we have the Mexican Army, coming on to US soil and disarming American soldiers. Talk about destroying the moral of the troops sent to secure the border!

You stated they were a few hundred yards into the US. 250 yds is .14 miles. That's a pretty good distance into another country, disarming that country's troops, and calling it a screw up. But you keep stretching.

I absolutely hold them responsible if they were not vigilant in performing their duties (which I suspect they were not). And I would personally conduct a 15-6 to determine if that was what occurred (would be hard to prove though). But the way this thread characterizes them as cowards who were unwilling to engage the Mexicans in a firefight is completely unacceptable to me. That was not their mission, no matter what transpired.

I am an AGR with two battalion commands, two brigade commands, and a resident SSC grad who is currently the chief of staff for a two star command.

Probably want to throw in those qualifiers as well.

ETA: Would love to see your qualifiers as a company grade pilot.

ETA2: Let’s throw that DA 4037 up and see what you got.

ETA3: Let’s also throw in that I had seven years enlisted service (11B SSG), twelve years Regular Army (MAJ) and now fifteen years Army Reserve AGR (COL). Do we still want to play the qualifiers game?

We have gone to war in the past with them for much less. I am not saying do that but we do have to get serious with them.

Close the border. Make them squeal. Let it be known that their troops in the future will be treated like our man was if caught on US soil, they will be arrested. We don't have to hold them, but perp walk the hell out of them, then kick them out.

It is past time they learn to respect the Gringo again..They have lost that respect. Do what you will on your own side of the border, but don't shite on ours any more.

Dying was not their mission. Observation evidently was. I hold them responsible for that, not any Matt Dillon impersonations.

do you really think if they had even pretended to have weapons that this would have ended with bloodshed? I mean if Mexicans are really willing to drive into US territory and kill we have a whole different set of problems here that need to be "addressed". The biggest problem here is surrendering to a non-hostile nation, or are they hostile now? I think we're nearing the latter with Mexico.

Guess you think they should have drawn their M9 pistols and had a shoot out instead, huh?
That is EXACTLY what the majority if the dimwits posting on this thread think they should have done.

They were less than vigilant in performing their observation duties.

They showed admirable diplomacy and restraint thereafter.

I wouldn’t go that far. I think they got caught napping (figuratively or literally). I am glad no fire was exchanged. Nothing to be gained by that. But this mission needs to be relooked. If this continues someone is eventually going to be injured or possibly killed.

I don't think we have any business patrolling in less than platoon strength down there anyhow. Some people might think that extreme but that's a pretty dangerous area with large numbers of who knows who wandering around.

So you actually think the Mexican military would actually shoot US Army forces in any instance? Really? Are we at war with Mexico? Why is the Mexican army disarming and taking prisoner US forces in the first place? WTF world are we living in?
