The ARM Cuauhtémoc (BE01), a sail training vessel of the Mexican Navy who has been in New York City since May 13 on a goodwill visit to the United States, struck the Brooklyn Bridge tonight while trying to depart the South Street Seaport. The mast of the ship suffered serious damage and over a dozen sailors were injured, according to the Secretariat of the Mexican Navy.

Trump Statement:
"Ladies and gentlemen, can you believe this? The Mexican Navy, great people, love their tacos, but they just rammed their big, beautiful sail ship right into the Brooklyn Bridge! I mean, come on, folks, this is New York City, home of the best bridges, the best pizza, the best everything! Nobody navigates better than New Yorkers, nobody! They say it was an accident, but I don’t know, maybe they got distracted by the Statue of Liberty waving at them. Tremendous ship, by the way, very classy, but you gotta steer it properly! Now we’ve got a mess, traffic’s backed up worse than a Manhattan rush hour, and I’m hearing the repair bill’s gonna be yuge! I told everyone we need stronger bridges, tougher infrastructure, but did they listen? No! We’re gonna fix this, make the Brooklyn Bridge great again, better than ever, and maybe send Mexico the bill—fair is fair, right? Sad situation, but we’ll handle it, because that’s what we do!"

How did they think that thing would fit through there?
I think there must’ve been a mechanical issue. The boat was going backwards and several small boats appear to try to have stopped it/slowed it down. Was on a path for and hit the sea wall after hitting the bridge.

well that sucks.. both for the bridge and the ship. Hated to see this one.

A judge will order taxpayers replace the masts and raise the bridge.

A few trips to Home Depot and it’ll be sailing by morning

Captain probably thought the bridge clearance was 127 meters instead of feet.
