You realize Democrats and Republicans basically switched sides entirely after the civil war right? Democrats back in the mid 19th century would have been Republicans today.

quote:

During the 1860s, Republicans, who dominated northern states, orchestrated an ambitious expansion of federal power, helping to fund the transcontinental railroad, the state university system and the settlement of the West by homesteaders, and instating a national currency and protective tariff. Democrats, who dominated the South, opposed these measures. After the Civil War, Republicans passed laws that granted protections for African Americans and advanced social justice; again, Democrats largely opposed these expansions of power.

I love it when my facts get so many downvotes. Get rustled.

I signed back on to downvote. You should pray for God to grant you better analogies, Rev.

This is such a silly, ridiculously simplified version of American history.

Go back to 1960 and ask a man on the street which party is the party of capitalism and markets. What do you think his answer will be? Go back to 1860 and ask a man on the street which party is the party of the city and of labor unions. What do you think his answer will be?

No. You just don't see things as clearly as "Rev." God grants him wisdom, and that's why he's so smart. About this and pederasty and a variety of other things. I grew up in the church.

So trust me.

Many mexicans have native blood in them, natives who were forced into missions. Most working class mexicans have more native in them than upper class mexican society.

Lincoln lost the vote in every major northern city. They RIOTED in NY when he got re-elected.

BTW, the paragraph you mentioned completely neglects to mention two things.

1) The demographics of the north in the 19th cenruty is not comparable to what it is now. For one thing, blacks hadn't migrated in large numbers yet from the south to north, and there were few if any other non-white groups yet.

2) Back then, the GOP, like today, dominated the plain states. Kansas, Nebraska, the dakotas- they were republican.

But it doesn't matter. You're a political naïf. So no one takes you seriously despite whatever incongruous label you slap on yourself.
