For many, including me, it's not just the potentially illegal votes that are troubling. It's also deeply troubling that multiple thousands of Democrat voters decided a Republican primary - even in the (unlikely) event that all or most were not illegal. Virtually none of them - if not actually none of them - were cast for Cochran because Cochran had reached out and offered a compelling case for conservatism or appealed to conservative principles with which Democrat voters could agree. No, at the very least, he reached out to them with the politics of fear and personal destruction by painting McDaniel as a maniac racist.

I realize there's nothing "illegal" about doing that, and the election will not be overturned on that basis.

It still stinks.

Absolutely.

It is why, as a republican, I wouldn't vote for Cochran in the general election. I'd vote for a democrat first.

I have a question, Why aren't the voters of MS starting a recall drive for Cochran? Why would he want to be involved in something so dishonest? I personally wouldn't want to serve if I had to cheat to get in. What happened to respecting the democratic process?

Orrin Hatch should have been stood against a wall along time ago.

Could you or someone else please elaborate further on the dishonesty? A prudent individual from the outside looking in has tangible nothing to go by on that account - the losing camp's sour grapes and irregularity "counts" don't do it for most of us.

Also, not sure if serious on recalling a US Senator.

Dishonest? He lost Jackson County in the primary. He went to Jackson County in the runoff and reminded the Ingall's workers (union/probably Democrat) that he has brought billions to the Coast. Call it pork. Call it pandering. Calling it what he should have been doing all along to win an election. He flipped the county.

Ok I guess all of the vote buying that we have been hearing about is untrue. I am sorry it all sounded kinda dirty to me. If it was found out that he cheated to win I am certainly serious about getting rid of him.

I am glad that McDaniel is going through this process for a couple of reasons:
(1) If there was actual fraud, then the election results can and should be thrown out;
(2) If they are unable to find enough votes to throw it out, it will effectively end McDaniel's political career...which is a good thing for Mississippi IMO.

He was, is and forever will be a bad candidate that would be an embarrassment to Mississippi. If he wingman, Michael Watson, had run he would have won and would actually have brought a ton of legitimacy and potential to DC from Mississippi. Instead, Watson is going to get drug to the bottom by the Joel Osteen of MS politicians. It is quite a shame really.

Here is my prediction based on personal observation as well as based on conversations with some MS politicos....

McDaniel is going to claim greater than 8,000 votes are fraudulent (whether true or not - remember they are counting in the light most favorable to them and remember how his people have acted throughout the campaign...breaking into nursing homes and courthouses).

The court is not going to allow the challenge to go forward and then the McDaniel supporters will turn their fury on the courts in Mississippi.

Then, in the 2015 governor and lt. governor's election, McDaniel is going to run against Phil Bryant and Michael Watson is going to run against Tate Reeves...with the same people voting for both.

McDaniel is going to lose to Bryant but Watson is going to beat Reeves because Reeves has pissed off the Bryant crowd and the Tea Party crowd. So Watson will pick up voters that voted for McDaniel and Bryant.

Yeah - it's called the general election in November. Landscape has changed. Enough tea party votes could stay home or even vote for Childers to make this interesting.

That's dumb. Bryant is an easy winner in reelection. Tate only runs for governor when Bryant is done. McDaniel's only chance at Lt Gov was when Tate left. He stepped on his dick with all of this though. He probably ought to concentrate on yelling shite at people in Jones County.

With all due respect, Diamonddawg, I think you need to read what you quoted from me. I never said Tate runs for governor, nor that McDaniel is running for Lt. Governor.

I agree in part. There is still a sizeable faction of McDaniel supporters that will work feverishly to support him in a run at Phil Bryant. Also, McDaniel has an exaulted opinion of himself and his abilities and limitations.

I fully expect him to run against Bryant if he is unsuccessful in his bid to overturn the election results. I also fully expect him to lose by a large margin as well.

I am hearing that Watson will run against Tate Reeves and Reeves is vulnerable. He could beat Reeves who picked the wrong battles in this past legislative session and came out on the losing end...losing a lot of his base in the process.

Edit: Remember for historical context that Bryant self-proclaimed to be the first Tea Party governor....then he endorsed Cochran. This has royally pissed off the TP crowd in MS.

Cochran showed up at 4 AM when they reported to work. McDaniel bus came a few days later, McDaniel stayed on the bus claiming he was sick while his staff shook hands.

Tate will crush Watson. Watson makes more than a few dumb political decisions. This whole deal is making it worse for him.
