How is this erasing history?

John C. Breckenridge was the Vice-President of the United States under Buchanan, the highest office a politician from Kentucky has ever held. When war broke out shortly after he left office, he went South and ended up a general in the Confederate army.

A statue of him was erected in Lexington because that's where he was born, raised, and died. Now they're tearing it down because he chose the wrong side in the Civil War, this despite the fact that he served as a U.S. Vice-President.

It isn't. They want it to be so they don't look like assholes.

A lot of people have been born, raised, and died there. The people there no longer want him representing them.

How long before any reference to the civil war is removed from history books? The left love to revise history.

Is everyone in public office a grandstanding piece of shite?

I'm just saying, most of the citizens of Lexington just aren't going to care about this. Lexington is a very left leaning city.

Why arent these decisions put to a vote?

Seems like a whole lot of bs could be avoided.

Have you personally polled all of Lexington? And since when does a statue equate to representation?

I doubt most of the citizens of Lexington even know who Breckenridge was.

Vote?

If Dems don't like the results of the election there will either be Dem judges overturning the results or violence. A vote means shite to the left.

You've got politicians virtue signaling, scoring political points, or speaking to their increasing liberal and northern residents.

I dont disagree. I think it would arrive at the same result (statues being removed) for the most part. Difference being, people would have their chance to be heard at the polls, rather than in the streets.
