Sure, but as an OT baller I have a team of counselors advising me at all times, thus the use of council.
You buying that?
You buying that?

I have many deep ties to Jackson and was raised in BR. I understand the fear that BR will turn into Jackson. I really do. It’s a very scary prospect. But I can say with complete confidence that BR will not turn into Jackson within any of our lifetimes. It could get close but it will not get that bad.
There are many many reasons for this but the 3 main huge reasons are:
1. ExxonMobil and all of the other industries in the area.
2. A close corollary to 1. The Mississippi River. Transport and logistics jobs.
3. LSU
Outside of the Nissan plant in Canton Jackson has no industry. There is very little opportunity for those with out a degree in Jackson. You’ve got some oil and gas in the area. But mostly exploration. Baton Rouge has been way ahead of Jackson for many many years.
Scotlandville and Baker are Beverly Hills compared to where the zoo is in Jackson. The parts of North Baton Rouge that flooded look better than the Jackson hood right now. That is not hyperbole. It’s incomprehensible what the Jackson hood is like.

I like going to the Jackson Zoo because it's like going on a trip to South Africa. At both you risk getting murdered/robbed/raped on the way to see the animals.

There is plenty of potential in Jackson. The medical corridor is excellent. Nissan. Continental. Ergon. All provide Opportunity. But in the suburbs.
The problem is that the tax base in Jackson proper is dried up and will not return. The main industry is government, healthcare and education. None of which pay taxes.
Then when you add a racist mayor and city council that won’t allow whites to get permits in a timely manner, you get what you see with Jackson today.
I’m on the shut down the zoo side. Memphis is close enough and they have a world class zoo.

I forgot about Ergon. Jackson certainly has potential. And the issues you point out are very real. I really hope one day Jackson will get it together. I’ve just heard too many people articulate the fear that BR will turn into Jackson and I don’t see it.

One has to wonder if the zoo is inside or outside the gates.

I’ve been saying that Baton Rouge would be Jackson, Miss. within 5 years. Looks like we were ahead of them on the curve on the zoo thing.
Actually, are way far ahead of BR. We got smart long ago and have Madison

Long story short for those of you outside of Jackson, the zoo has been slowly falling apart in west Jackson and the crime around it is so bad people hardly go there anymore. They’ve lost some accreditations and a lot of animals.
Zoo committee votes to move the zoo to the state park next door to the chilrens museum in a very high traffic area next to I-55 in a much better part of town. Still in Jackson. Now mayor and city council are raising hell. It’s been very entertaining
This all seems strangely familiar...

Jackson is 85% black and has gained 5% black since 2010.
It is now the most black city in the Top 100 cities in America. We just beat out Detroit for first place.

Zamunda seemed like a nice place in that Coming to America movie.

While that is true Madison looks like Beverly Hills compared to anything in BR so it is pretty much a wash.
Both are circling the toilet.
