Well, we don't believe their spirits are dead, do we? That would certainly be a grim outlook for all of us.

His mom wasn't dead at that point.

Of course I do. I still pray to God in Jesus' name. The Bible does not teach anything else.

I’m not Catholic so I’ll ask that the Lord Jesus protect them and keep them safe. Trump has a lot of evil coming at him.

Excellent. So as someone who adheres to the Bible, you acknowledge the existence of something "out there" other than the one, supreme Lord.

If you believe that God permitted the angels to intervene and appear in the Earthly realm on his behalf, then it shouldn't be too much of stretch to believe in the possibility that other such spirits could exist. In fact, that possibility is confirmed right there in the Gospels.

Out there? Where did I say that? There is one God. There are angels. What are you getting at?

God specifically says not to worship anyone but Him. I don't worship angels.

Not my point. I'm simply pointing out that there are entities beyond this earthly realm that can be interacted with besides God.

Key word. Can make a big difference in us understanding each other.

Right. They just add all that other stuff, like praying to saints and acting as if a Priest is Jesus' representation on Earth and can forgive your sins.

Prayer does not equal worship.

Prayer:
The act or practice of praying.

An earnest request; entreaty; supplication
(a) humble entreaty addressed to God, to a god, etc.: (b) a request made to God, etc.; as, her prayer for his safe return; (c) any set formula for praying, as to God.

Prayer is not, by definition, necessarily equated with the adoration that is due God alone.

Yeah, the Bible says not to practice necromancy which is interacting with dead spirits.

Not what Catholics believe. That's something you were either told or read from a biased source.

quote:

And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. 3 And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. 4 And Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” 5 He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son,[a] with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” 6 When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and were terrified. 7 But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and have no fear.” 8 And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.

Looks like some of the apostles were necromancers then.

I guess the no religion rule on the Poli Board as phony as the no
Politics on the SEC rant or more sports rant. As worthless as Trump agreeing to rules of conduct as the debate.

good grief. what part of the Bible do you read that says Mary can do anything whatsoever to help people? Pray to Christ or pray to God Almighty. Mary can't do anything.

The same part that says your prayers matter. Do you think a prayer from the mother of Jesus carries no weight?

Do you not ask your family and friends to pray for you when you are facing some tribulation? Why should we not beseech Mary to do the same? In 2nd Corinthians 1:11, Paul says the prayers of the many strengthens and blesses a faith community

One difference is we aren’t praying to our friends and family. “ Hey Mom, include me in your prayers if you want” is much different than bowing my head and praying to Mary.

If the bible is the divine word of God and he’s included in the bible everything we need to know, then why no command to pray to Mary? Why didn’t Jesus tell his disciples to pray to Mary when he was gone?

I go to the source. Statues, trinkets, and robotic, ritualistic religion won’t get you any favors with God. He’s a jealous God and I don’t think praying to Mary and glorifying her is what he intended. However, this is just my opinion. If you love the lord and believe and follow Jesus through your actions, then carry on with the extra stuff.
