I'm amazed at the things you people have time to be outraged about. They bought land in DC where property values have sucked, built the house and it's increased in value. Isn't that, ya know, the American Dream?

It is amazing how people like Obama and Landrieu swerve into these great land deals isn't it?

Good for them. They are very lucky people, right up there with Hillary and bill Clinton who didn't have anything a decade or so ago and now they are gazillionaires.

I'm happy for Landrieu. I want her clout to remain in the Senate working for the great state of Louisiana and its constituents.

When is she going to start doing that?

She is the self-proclaimed Senator from DC. When is she going to start representing Louisianans and I don't mean a select group of govt. contractors?

If she can afford a $2.5 million home in D.C., why can't she afford one in Louisiana?

Cuz she's already bought one in DC?

If her primary residence was in La. then you'd know where her hear tis. It's not, it's in DC.
Meh. I know many politicians that live AND work in LA that put their interests before the state's citizens.

Certainly not, but getting wealthy while working for the public and using your position for access into the financial world is how she and her hubby got wealthy. Surely you understand how that works, right?
Possibly? I have no idea how she earned her wealth. If there is evidence of corruption... bring it on! But owning an expensive house doesn't make one guilty of anything. That's all I'm saying.

She is currently running commercials here in La. showing how "in touch" she is with the little guy, the regular folk in La. That's what I was reacting to.
If so, i can see why. Mary, in my experience, has never been folksy nor "down to earth".

Mary is the classic example of regular guy/girl goes to DC and forgets where she has come from.
i don't disagree. But the voters have a share in that. It isn't like Mary just turned into a hyper-liberal. From what I remember, I don't think she's changed all much. She's sucked long before she bought her fashionable capital hill home.

I still can't believe the election is as close as it is.

Not a victim. She chose to be a full-time mom and a full-time senator. That necessitated that she live in D.C. It's disingenuous of you to pretend that there isn't a double standard.

It's not a double standard because I was upset that Richard Baker did the very same thing (except he was a Rep. not a Senator).

We don't need a fulltime Senator or Congressman that sells out and becomes a belt way boy/woman.

That's what we get with a Landrieu, a Baker, a Breaux, etc.

Too many I'm sure, and that's a huge problem.

You won't see bribe money being passed. It doesn't work that way. But if you look at the members of Congress you will see a lot of lucky people who seem to play the stock market very well, or fall into some great deals. One thing about US voters, we usually elect the lucky people.

No, but it seems to work during every election when the Dems play the class card.

That's why I'm not understanding you. (Or maybe we're in violent agreement?) What "double standard" are you talking about?

She *could* get a cheap apartment just like the men do. I don't think she has a "greater necessity" than the male congressmen do.

Seemingly... Asserting Mary has "greater necessity" than her male counterparts to be with their children would be holding a two unequal standards?

Maybe I' misinterpreting you, tho.

Im not expecting ABSCAM type tapes. But I haven't heard they types of interest conflicts, policy entanglements, and weird coincidences like we have for Reid, Pelosi, Rostenkowski , Jim Wright, etc. maybe lack of spotlight on her? I'm not suggesting she's Squeaky Kleen. I simply don't know.

Well, it may be a bit unfair to expect someone with as much power over businesses to have no association with business interests. Hell, given the inside trading exemption, and a lot of contact business people ... Making a lot of money isn't really hard to imagine.

it is unusual to see he table turned against the democrat Doesn't make it right.

Yep, guessing 2.5 million doesn't buy a whole lot in some parts of DC

i didn't realize we were in court.

if you want to make this criticism, then make it towards everyone in Washington, not just Mary or just Democrats.

she's been in DC for what, 20+ years? The homes in DC and DC itself look like Versailles these days.

Not that I'm a fan of her, just pointing out that she is hardly any different from your typical DC politician

Seems as if the value of the house has increased 50,000 since the original WaPo article.

It's still way undervalued.

Must be nice to have connections.

In all honesty, this is not a big deal. However, not having a Louisiana residence is troubling.

However, it highlights the double standards--if it were a republican senator he would be lambasted for living in DC as well as being a 1%er.

With ML...crickets.
