If I were going to run for President and I'm a Republican, I might want to talk to Karl Rove as he is the last guy to get his candidate elected twice. Plus he is very good at organization....and organization and management can win you elections if you are a contender.

I think this take is a late formed one because like you say he trusted them early on. But one by one they burned him in the long run.
