Solar's fine but it shouldn't be mandatory. Basically, if you invest in a Solar charge station and build it properly (and live in a state with abundant sunshine), you should be fine. Wind energy is very useless however.

Start relying too heavily on inefficient, inadequate energy production because you think it's "green" and that's exactly what will happen. Californians were asked to reduce peak loads just last year (maybe this year as well, I never looked) to avoid blackouts.
