Not only are you assuming that it is an alien civilization, you are overlooking the small matter that they have not been invited nor have they announced their intentions.
But judging from the reports of how these things move actually hitting one would be about as tricky as getting a democrat to tell the truth.

Does it matter? If we didn't invite it nor do we know who it is and they have advanced technology wouldn't common sense dictate that you don't try to kill as a first option?

If it’s human then it matters. We should be able to shoot it down without a second thought. If it’s not of human origin , then the concept of common sense may not even be relevant. They certainly would possess some level of logic , so maybe they can understand the concept of a warning shot?
Self-preservation is a human instinct, but so is curiosity. Either we find out what these things are or we might just die trying.
