You'll have to explain that term to me.

He already has his Indian property owner friends lined up to become the new slum lords

It means you'll have to define the term "slum lord," as you imagine it, for the rest of us.

They’ve done this to thousands of hotels.

Exactly. At least on paper, this is exactly what this is about.

High end you can make a lot of money.

Government housing you can make money and not give a shite.

Yep, for every landlord their are multiple tenants. A very simple numbers game for a politician. Maybe a well heeled landlord can personally sue Mamdani immediately and keep him busy his entire term in court.

The most hated landlord in NY is Trump. I wouldn’t think of him as a slum lord.

On paper they hate everyone but the slumlords they fund.

For me this is anyone renting substandard housing, defined as out of code, arguably unsafe, and with unreliable utilities that either go unrepaired or with excessive delays. This is independent of rent prices as it happens in both high and low value rental markets.

Everyone knows rent is insane in major metropolitan areas like NYC and finding a place is a challenge.

So while I am certainly opposed to the heavy hand of government creating rent controls and other measures, I'm not blind to the fact that some fraction of property owners will be abusive.

They're gonna run people out of their apartments and then seize the properties.

I think he’s talking about real slumlords. I don’t think of him as one either.

You’ve clearly never dealt with tenants. Certainly you’ve never rubbed elbows with the Section-8 peeps.

I've had tenants, but never section 8.

I'm not sure what the basis of your conclusion might be. Renting a property that is properly maintained is a stipulation of the associated insurance policy.

This sounds like section 8. And again, they aren’t the hated ones.

Not by democrats at least. They hate billionaire landlords like Trump. Because they can’t afford the penthouse house on a 175k salary.

They want to fund more shitty living.

Yes there are shitty landlords, but you and I can just move out of those places. Poors living in government housing can’t.

Think about what it was like living in a hotel they put homeless folks in during Covid. That was probably worse than any shite place I rented in college. That’s government housing.
