Interesting. The department stores will likely follow if the rest of the mall is annexed.

Wonder how this will play during the debate in the council meeting next week? Might influence someone to delay the decision on annexation until these details can be figured out.

As an outsider I find this whole thing so interesting. Not sure why.

It's funny to watch both sides go at it.

Maybe some besides the SG leadership didn't have their ducks in a row?

It sounds like the mall is not really the mall and others beside GGP need to be persuaded.

Before then is my guess.

Those stores all have large real estate legal departments that probably have to sign off on any petition and this is just a matter of paperwork getting completed by them.

The Mall's main owner could make his own decision without waiting on all of those store's lawyers and he wanted his petition to be a matter of record ASAP.

I was right. Just reported on the WBRZ 10 pm news that the stores which were not included on the petition will be joining the petition. They need their boards' approval and that will be coming soon.

Nothing to see here.

eta: sorry SG fanboys.

Why would the Dept. Stores like Sears, Dillards, etc.want in BR when they can be like Towne Center and Phil Witter?

Couldn't they just get all the city services "free" and pay the lesser property taxes of an unincorporated piece of property?

If Towne Center doesn't want in BR, then why would Dillards or Sears want in BR?

It is a legitimate question, and I do not know the answer, but in reality they may or may not want in.

Because Sears and Dillards don't own Arabian horses that they couldn't keep on their property if they were annexed into the Baton Rouge city limits.

Towne Center and all the other commercial enterprises and apartments don't own Arabians either.

I understand completely about Witter; however, and probably shouldn't have included him in my initial question.

Try again. DUH!!!!!

No, but Phil Witter lives on his horse ranch adjacent to Towne Center, and he also owns the real estate the shopping center is built on.

He has also shown interest in having towne center annexed. Made some statements to the press on the issue.

IMO, it would be a good business decision for him to request the property Towne Center is built on to be annexed.

However, Phil Witter's business record has not been filled with good business decisions.

Remember the hamburger fast food chain he started to compete with McDonalds? That lasted about 3 years before it shut down. It only cost him ten million or so. It's a good thing his mom and dad left him a lot more than that to play with.

Witter is.......uh.......eccentric.
