I cannot understand why St. George can't admit that they have been just as much to blame in contributing to this problem. Even as you are touting the power of community involvement, you go right back into the apathy that brought you here.
You must be new yo the area, decades of Federal control of the EBR System took many if not most of the citizens out of the game.
People were not heard , the judge looked at quotas, schools, and buses.
Many citizens headed for the borders, the ones left now had to pick up the pieces.
Now the suit has been settled and the status quo was votes millions in new tax dollars as they promised results.
Now we see our tax dollars are going to a corrupt system and people say enough is enough. Let us run our schools. EBR you are fired .

Run your schools. Your schools are EBR. Elect better board members. Gets petitions circulating calling for the removal of Taylor (y'all are good at that, I think).

I grew up here, I am keenly aware of the reasons why people do or do not attend public school

Hopefully you heard wrong
It was scheduled for the 28th. technically it is still scheduled for the 28th, but the mayors office added it to the may 14th agenda. The mayors office scheduling agenda items is abnormal. Go figure.

And he ignored answering your question.

Not really, the judge took them away and returned them broke down and in shambles with the people left to fix them unqualified to do major surgery.

Taylor is your guy. Keep him. He's what y'all want, a yes man to paper over the incompetence and corruption.

The status quo has killed families in EBR. Four thousand fewer school age kids than there was 40 years ago.
ok, i keep seeing the separatists throw around this kid number. Completely ignoring that the United States birth rate has declined dramatically in that time.
Birth Rate
recent
The overall U.S. birth rate peaked most recently in the Baby Boom years, reaching 122.7 in 1957, nearly double today’s rate. The birth rate sagged through the mid-1970s but stabilized at 65-70 births per 1,000 women for most years after that before falling again after 2007, the beginning of the Great Recession.

I find it hard to understand why you have confidence in the current school regime.
Maybe you had a good experience and your kids prospered, but many did not and after the last round of tax increases with little results most do not share your enthusiasm.

Who said I did? I want change as much as anyone.
I am not however, in favor of turning destroying Baton Rouge in order start a new system that will most likely fail as well.
I don't see how turning Baton Rouge into Detroit serves St. George's interests, even if the Woodlawn Panthers turn into the Woodlawn Rainbow Farting Unicorns

These are thing they CHOSE not to do before.
I am skeptical of their system mainly because they will keep electing the same clowns for council and school board as they have been doing for 40 years. I haven't heard once them criticize the people directly responsible for their "neglect". The self-serving assholes they elected just jump on the St George hate train for the ride and get praised for it.

No, Taylor represents St. George right now just as must as he does the city if BR.
I love how SG people put all the blame on the city for the failing schools, as if they aren't part of the same exact school system with the same amount of voting power as everyone else.
Your insistence of creating this "us vs them", "SG vs BR" is hurting the entire community. SG is BR. Your 'leaders' have just as much blame as those coming from the city limits regarding the schools.

Good point, do I looked it up.
US Census showed 69.7 million kids age 18 or under which made up 34% of the population in 1970
US Census showed 74.1 million kids 18 or under which made up 24% of the population in 2010.
That's an overall increase of about seven percent. In the same time period BR lost kids.

It's obvious what went on
EBR pro business anti family.
While businesses cut deals with Daniels, you don't see families asking in do you?

I argue that new cheap tract housing was a more significant driver of families moving out there than schools, but I guess we will never know.
