Louisiana Republicans Clash Over Carbon Capture In U.S. Senate Race

A political dispute between Jeff Landry and John Fleming has intensified, with the two Louisiana Republicans publicly clashing over positions on carbon capture and the state’s upcoming Senate primary.
The exchange escalated after Landry accused Fleming of inconsistency on carbon capture and storage (CCS), an issue that has become increasingly prominent in Louisiana’s industrial and political landscape. In a social media post, Landry claimed Fleming had previously supported CCS-related measures during his time in Congress, citing material from MAGA Energy Project.
Landry characterized Fleming’s current opposition to carbon capture as a reversal, while also criticizing his political alliances. The governor urged voters not to trust Fleming, framing the issue as one of credibility as well as policy.
Fleming rejected the claims, responding publicly by denying that he had backed legislation promoting CCS. He maintained that he has consistently opposed the development of carbon capture projects in Louisiana and criticized Landry’s position on the issue.
The dispute comes amid a broader contest over Louisiana’s Senate seat, where Landry is backing Julia Letlow in the Republican primary against both Fleming and incumbent senator Bill Cassidy.
Fleming has accused Landry of intervening in the race to support Letlow, including claims of behind-the-scenes coordination. Landry has dismissed those accusations and questioned Fleming’s suitability for office.
The disagreement highlights growing divisions within the state’s Republican leadership over carbon capture, which has been promoted as an economic and industrial opportunity but has also faced opposition from some local groups and political figures.
Louisiana has positioned itself as a potential hub for CCS development, given its existing energy infrastructure and geological storage potential. However, the debate between Landry and Fleming reflects broader tensions over how such projects should be developed and the extent of political support they should receive.

Since Moon Griffon, who has come out against carbon capture many time on his radio show, is hosting a debate between Fleming and Letlow, I’ll be very curious if he bluntly questions each of their stances on this issue, and how direct Rep Letlow’s answer will be.

Landry afraid he will not get his cut?
Carbon capture is a scam... planting trees is a far more sustainable solution.... not to mention cheaper and renewable.

Anyone who supports carbon capture should never be trusted to run anything more complex than a snow-cone stand.
And if you support it, at least say you are doing it because you've been bought off by the industry. I would have more respect for you then, rather than if you tried to convince the voters it was actually legitimate.

And you know it's a scam, because the oil industry supports it because it lets them wash away their sins in a sea of legitimacy.

I hope this is just political theater and Landry isn't stumping for carbon capture.
Doesn't matter to me if he's fooled into thinking we need it or he wants money out of the scam, this shite will end up costing you and me.

I get the impression that Landry thinks he's popular enough to run for President one day.
I'm not in LA, but he seems like a fricking slimeball to me.
