Why in the hell would anyone pay a state income tax to live in Louisiana? Seriously.

well i'm lucky to live in an area of economic production

but

it's gotten to the point where the only real plan is to figure out how to exploi...er...find an economic edge given the population/demos

You're not that old baw. Think of the larger client base you'd have in Houston alone.

Sounds like a great impetus to call for a state constitutional convention.

It won't come close to being a wash. At worst it'll be 6% of your federal savings. NY state was pissed for other reasons, namely that it's people could no longer deduct their full state income tax liability from their federal taxes.

While nothing to be happy about, the reaction to this is just short of sky screamer level. Yes it sucks, but, it is constitutionally mandated. As someone said, be pissed at the ‘73 version of Governor Edwards. Maybe you can bang Candy just to feel better about it.

That’s nuts.
And it doesn’t make the situation a lick better.

Nah, not really. It's the same tax law it's been for years.

This state will never make it.
From constant budget deficits, to not funding your economic engine in LSU, crime, poverty, etc. The list goes on and on.

At least we got a Top Golf!

Brilliant, especially with a neighbor that has no state income taxes.

Mississippi is running legislation to drop state taxes as well. You’ll be sandwiched between two state tax free states run by republicans.

Sadly, Louisiana is full of them. We have a history of soft socialism thanks to the biggest granddaddy of handing out free shite like Huey P. Long. Yet we have nothing to show for it, nothing.

We seriously need an exorcist to rid Baton Rouge of that fricker's ghost.

I think it means that since LA doesn't tax you on money that the federal government takes as income tax, that there will be more money taxable by the state following a federal cut. Therefore if your federal taxes drop by $2,000, LA can now tax it at its usual state tax rate. Naturally that would require withholdings to increase.

Soooooo - about this budget shortfall, yes we need to tighten the belt. The question is, what type of impact will this mandated tax increase have? I realize we aren’t talking about huge sums per person, but multiple that and it could be substantial. The irony is, the mandate passed by the Democrats in 1973 may be the best news for current Republicans in today’s legislature. They had to be shitting in their pants at the very thought of renewing that sales tax or hammering TOPS again. Not that TOPS doesn’t need to be tweaked, but the optics politically would have been something for them to be concerned with. Politics- gotta love it.

You're absolutely right and this should have been done when Jindal was practically unopposed for reelection.

The problem is that nobody in this state has the intestinal fortitude to do anything about our broken state government.
