Opposing the unanimous verdict amendment, probably pushed by Alton Sterling types

I think I read #4 wrong. I change it to yes. Those double negatives make some of these confusing.

What’s the current law on item 1? Seems like they’re trying to reduce the limit to 5 years.
No. 2- no. That law will suck for east Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Orleans, etc... you have a bunch of citizens who hate the judicial system. It will only take one person to let a quilts person walk on a felony. As a rule, I oppose and law offered by Jp morel.
No. 3- no. Seems like someone’s friends pockets will get lined.
No.4 - what’s the transportation fund? So many questions.
No. 5 and 6- no. Stop playing with the assessments. If you reduce others, you’ll have to raise others. frick this state.

Funded by the gas tax. Supposed to only go to highways, but most of it is diverted to state police, bus lines, and other bull shite. This amendment is a measure to get one of the hands out of the cookie jar to free up more of the gas tax revenue to be used on roads and bridges.

The law used to be 15 years. In 2016 the Louisiana Supreme Court struck it down after deciding that what people voted on and what was actually written into law were 2 different things. Part of the decision included that it could be voted on again, resulting in this amendment. So to answer your question, used to be 15 year ban, currently no ban, voting on a 5 year ban.

what’s the transportation fund?
quote:
The TTF was designed to hold revenue from all state taxes on gasoline and motor fuels. As of 2018, funds in the TTF can be used for the construction and maintenance of highways, roads, and bridges, the Statewide Flood-Control Program, ports, airports, transit, state police for traffic control purposes, and the Parish Transportation Fund for parish governments. The Times-Picayune reported that the state’s previous governors had used trust fund revenue to fill gaps in the state police budget

As far as I can tell there is no prohibition on felons running for office.
quote:
Felons can run for public office in Louisiana because the state Senate improperly amended the state constitution in 1998 to prevent it, the Louisiana Supreme Court ruled.
Under state Senate Bill No. 321, of 1997, unpardoned, convicted felons were to be prohibited from seeking a municipal or state office. State Sen. Max Malone, who introduced the bill, sought to add the felon-disqualifying paragraph to the state constitution.
The bill was amended in the Senate, providing an exception for felons who had completed their sentence more than 15 years before the candidate-qualifying date.
The Senate passed the bill by 29-3 vote on May 27, 1997. House Representative Kyle Green added a provision that the felon must have been jailed for his or her conviction, and that if not, he or she could still run for office.
The House passed the bill, with the Green amendment, by 71-31 vote. But the bill the Senate adopted in 1998 excluded the Green amendments.

Pretty sure State Police is allowed to get money from that fund but doesn't usually. It's a product of an overly bloated Louisiana constitution and whatnot. It is an extra way for the legislature to help fund LSP in case the legislature get in a pinch.

It's not an extra tax it's how the extra amount is charged if a reappraisal comes out at least 50% more than what the assessment has been. Voting for this would phase that extra payment in over 4 years instead of having to pay it all immediately.

That's right. A yes ends their ability to take from the fund, a no lets it continue.

1y Should be for life, but 5 is better than 0.
2n Currently works and is Constitutional.
3n Can exchange now for equal value. This is a give away.
4y Infrastructure tax for infrastructure.
5n Don’t like increasing tax exemptions for special groups. This makes it worse.
6y If your tax burden suddenly jumps 50+% you need time to adjust, fight, sell, etc.!
