Entering a second term without the budget woes of his first, Gov. John Bel Edwards plans to dole out nearly $1 million in pay raises to his staff, Cabinet secretaries and other high-level political appointees across state government.

The Edwards administration on Thursday provided The Associated Press with a list of more than 150 top-level political appointees who have already received or are in line to receive the salary hikes. State lawmakers also received the list.

The Democratic governor’s chief financial adviser, Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne, mentioned the raises in his presentation of Edwards’ budget recommendations for the upcoming 2020-21 year, describing it to lawmakers as a “small increase.” The AP received the list after asking Dardenne’s office for specific details.

How's that pay raise he bought the teachers unions with working out?

I told you idiots who voted for this jackass. I have been watching his family operate for years, they are all crooks and liars. Just watch what he will do now that he can't run in 2024. They have been trying to force a casino onto us here in Ponchatoula for a year now. No one here wants it but they keep bringing up.

Saw in local paper today. And the Teachers were all behind him for a meager raise that now they won't get?

His Bah's getting theirs though.

I can’t imagine how I’d win an election against a panderer. Seems impossible. And teachers are more likely to vote than the usual leech

$1m in pay raises spread across 150 individuals?

I don’t see the issue.

If that raise was spread out over 150 people that is an average raise of $6,666.66. An average cost of living wage raise is 2-3%. If they are being generous and this is a full 3%. The workers would receive a raise of 6,666.66. I would need to make over 220k to receive this kind of raise. You don’t see an issue with people in our government making over 200k on tax payers dollars? The spending is irresponsible.

Well at least he didn’t cheat on his wife or make goofy commercial. I can sleep well at night knowing my governor is spending my tax dollars Willy nilly but not if he gets strange . That’s what really matters to me

Government never stops growing no matter who’s in charge.
