Huey P. Landry is an idiot. Just like every other governor we have had in my lifetime.

Ask Huey P. Landry about all the areas of education that would lose funding. Of course they don't mention that.

This may be the stupidest comment I've ever read on here.

I'm not a big fan of Landry at all. However, the one thing I'm really glad about is that he is not in favor of vaxxx mandates or lockdowns like John Bel Edwards was. That is a big deal.

I think this is what happened.

The Anti-2 crowd went after it hard on every social media site and every teacher in my Facebook feed repeated the same lines against it.

I didn't see any pro amendment 2 on social media at all to try to combat it.

One of the problems with these amendments and most bills for that matter is that they include many items that should be "stand alone" items.

Yep. Amendment 2 could have been 7 different Amendments.

That's why you read over it before.
I agree and did so before voting. OTOH, despite being a college English instructor and a law school grad, reading that thing was tough sledding. Hell, even reading PAR's guide was dense.

Ultimately, it seemed like they were trying to do a dozen different things, especially with Amendment 2. They should have broken them into smaller pieces and done a better job of explaining.

What was Garbage about 1?

The part of it which would have allowed for the creation of more specialized courts. We already have more judges than other states with our population. The creation of more specialized courts mean more judges are needed, meaning the growth of government. There are currently 69 specialized courts, in 2023 they heard ~5,000 cases total. That's approximately 1 case per court per week but somehow we need more of that?

The part about governance over out-of-state lawyers and firms practicing in the state, if it's really that big of a deal, should be its own amendment with its own concise language. Here's an example of what it could be: "any out-of-state firm or individual practicing or seeking to practice any form of law in the state of Louisiana agrees to be bound by the state's rules and penalties for behavior and ethics for any of their work provided to -or on the behalf- of any specific or generalized citizen or group of citizens of the state."

Landry and his supporters in Baton Rouge got bitched slapped by the voters. It’s a direct indication of how people really think about him.

The early and aggressive endorsement of Landry by the Trump people allowed Jeff to win without earning the votes at the grassroots. He suddenly looks very weak.

Unfortunately, Soros and far left liberals poured millions into Louisiana with propaganda and outright lies about Amendment 2,” said Governor Landry.

Ironic result given the average IQ post showing LA 49th in the country.

If LA can’t reduce size of it bloated government and eliminate the state income tax, it’s productive citizens will continue to flee to surrounding areas.

MS eliminated the income tax this week, and AL/SC have passed LA in population last 2 years.

AR and KY are the next SEC states to pass LA next 5-10 years.

Get your act together LA or you’ll be the Illinois of the South.

But where in amendment 2 did it offer a tax cut? It lowered the cap, it didn’t lower the rate. And anyone who thinks this state is going to give anyone a permanent tax cut is deluding themselves. Louisiana spends way too much money to ever give the citizens a permanent tax cut. We may get one for a few years or on a specific item (relative to sales taxes), but the state cannot afford to cut revenues. Louisiana spends too much money!! Notice also that the increase in sales taxes was presented as being offset by a cut in income tax. But there apparently NEVER WAS a cut in place. ( It required voter approval just to cap the rate!) Yet again, the politicians misled voters. And people ask why voters reject new legislation?

Amendment 2 was a bad amendment because they tried to do too much.

However, the 3% state income tax rate and corresponding sales tax increase had nothing to do with this amendment. The state income tax has already been dropped to 3% for the middle and highest brackets.

The only tax “cut” in #2 was the increase in the standard deduction for seniors and a lowering of the personal income tax max rate to 3.75% - the latter would have made it more difficult for the legislature to increase taxes down the road without a statewide vote.

That’s not how I read #1. I didn’t think there would be more courts overall, but potentially better acumen presiding over the specialized courts.

There was nothing. The only thing that I saw was a few text messages Thursday and Friday. They got out ground-gamed again like always. Most people didn’t know there was an election much less what for.

I didn’t see all that; I don’t use social media very much. What were the teachers saying was bad about #2?

There was a little ground game in industrial groups and things like that but it felt like they were trying to sell it more than something they believed.

My biggest issue with #2 was the idea that money was going to be less restricted in BR. They don’t deserve the benefit of the doubt IMO.
