Second largest school district in the country. I think you'll see more of this.

And there goes 30-40% of their urban students.

Somewhere around that amount never attended a single online class in the spring. Run this out for the full year, and these kids will be a year behind.

Do they
A) get passed to the next grade (because covid, duh) and then drop out.
B) get held back and then drop out.

Guess it wouldn't look good to announce they are delaying the start of the school year to November 4.

Win-win for Dems as either outcome secures them on the path to dependent status.

Caving to teacher unions.

ETA - I am okay with this, but the taxpayers should not have to cover salaries of teachers that are not working.

Yep. No telling what kind of damage this is going to do in the long haul. Nearly a year of school (if not more when this is all over), all gone. These smart kids who live in extremely abusive households that had a chance to make something of themselves, many of these people’s dreams are going in the toilet. It will take at least 5 years for us to understand the damage this will do, if not longer.

Los Angeles and San Diego school districts will start the school year next month offering only virtual classes as coronavirus case numbers climb across California.

Instruction will resume as scheduled on Aug. 18 in Lost Angeles and Aug. 31 in San Diego, but will begin with an exclusively online presence, the San Diego Unified and Los Angeles Unified school districts announced in a joint statement Monday.

Both districts said they will plan on returning for in-person instruction during the 2020-2021 academic year "as soon as public health conditions allow."

When this all started there were numerous articles and TV news segments about how so many urban students need school to be open because it's their only way of eating 3 meals, their only positive socialization, escape from often dangerous households, etc. Now they're closed for almost a full year. It's become impossible not to be cynical about this whole thing.

shite schools around here still ran the meal programs and handed them out in the car line... they are still doing it with their summer feeding program...

Would hate for the chillrens to starve with moms on the food stamps and the free meals at school...
