Looks like Trump's biggest mistake (Betsy DeVos) may be in trouble.

Senate postpones vote after ethics review.
I wonder if this is Trump's way of having a do over without having to admit to a mistake. Trump has his faults but it seems like he does value competence and she has been exposed as having none.

DeVos has no professional experience in public schools, but she has lobbied for decades to expand charter schools and taxpayer-funded vouchers for private and religious schools. Her inexperience proved to be a liability at Tuesday’s hearing, as Senate Democrats grilled her on education policy questions that she had trouble answering.
quote:
She is, however, retaining her position as co-trustee of three family trusts, at least one of which has an indirect financial stake in Sextant Education, which operates a chain of for-profit colleges, through its parent company AEA Investors. Though DeVos lists AEA as one of the assets she intends to divest, it’s unclear whether she would retain a partial stake through the trust.

She is awful. She couldn't answer simple questions about standards. I understand that she is alegidly oversee the closure or pairing down of the department, but she should have a little understanding about educating children.

Education and Labor were always going to be a problem. DeVos looked like Betty Crocker interviewing for a CalTech job.

If you are going to fight for one of your cabinet choices it shouldn't have to be for a halfassed position like Education.
Seems like another charter proponent could be chosen to replace her to implement similar policy whislt being able to tell the difference between their arse and a hole in the ground.

It doesn't really matter. Whomever is next in line will have all of the same views and enact all of the same policies. She is just an extension of the president's views.

She is an outstanding appointee and did as she was smartly instructed to do in the hearings.
Any freedom loving, small government person that cares about education should be happy she is the appointee.
Teacher union loving folks will hate her.

I know the name Betsy DeVos. If she becomes the SecEd, she will be the only one in history that I knew the name.
The entire dept needs to be disposed of with the quickness.

After her inexcusable performance in the nomination hearing, where she struggled to answer even the straightforward questions, this should be a good time to look elsewhere. She's not an example of "hiring the best."

That is wrong.
Warren and gang was trying to trap her and she was right to avoid their demands for yes no answers.

She is absolutely terrible and anyone that is being the least bit objective would agree. If Trump wants to put someone up who favors charters, fine, but why not pick someone who has the know how to do the job?
As Trevor Noah put it, it would be like hiring an Amish person to run NASA.

The last thing voucher and charter proponents need is for the vanguard of their movement to be led by a cronyist ignoramus.

She is far from incompetent.

Federal education standards are the antithesis of what we're going for.

Don't let your agreement with her views cloud the incompetence she showed.
Surely someone with similar views can be able to show actual competence.

She has made those of us for charters and school choice look like morons.

Her family donations to the Republican Party got her to that nomination.
Here private education didn't help much answering commonsense questions.

Surely, somebody can share her views, and also show the competence to implement them.

She is far from incompetent.

Look at the dumbass questions Warren has been asking everyone and Kamala Harris asking CIA director about climate change and Planned Parenthood.
