The government did it to the people largely against their will.
The UK has aggressively voted against immigration whenever possible the last 20 years, but immigration levels continued to surge. It's why the conservative party there lost so miserably. People got tired of their lies. No matter how much people voted against immigration it just grew. Both parties there were determined to do it regardless of what the voters said.

I always wanted to see London. Now it’s begun to dawn on me that it’s not going to happen… at least not until Londoner’s wake up and ask themselves what the frick they’ve done to their country.
They must elect more conservative leaders or else that country will be so beyond fricked, there’s no coming back. And its getting pretty fricking close.

I made the mistake of traveling to London a few years ago, it was depressing how few brits there actually were, I enjoyed Scotland though.

Once upon a time, a man wrote a book with the title alluding to "Struggle" or words to that effect. The central premise was that all of history was a conflict between groups of varying geographic ancestry and that if one is not actively fighting for the perseveration of one's own, they will ultimately succumb to the efforts of those who have no such compunction. Nothing that has happened since has belied this fundamental truth of human nature.

Yep, whether they intended it that way or not. Enoch Powell forewarned of this development in the early 70s after the government started actively recruiting people from the West Indies and India in the late 50s and 60s.
He said all the Commonwealth stuff would not work as intended and you would have surplus immigration into a place that really could not handle it.
60 Minutes had a segment about 30 years ago talking about what a mess British immigration had become in particular for London. The Loony Left.. Reminds me of what happened in NYC in the late 50s culminating with all of the school problems they ended up having in the late 60s when the radicals were trying to assert power.

The left is perfectly willing to sacrifice their host country to increase likelihood of gaining the entrants future votes to more easily win future elections.
Trump will make an attempt with mass deportation, but national divorce is really the only long term solution when the other side is evil. As the left is out of power in the US, they’d likely come to the table.
