Voter turnout among minorities and poor people (a disproportionate share of whom are also minorities) is always low.

How do you not know this?

Short video...The Rocky Mountain Heist. Simply make corruption legal and there is little you can do about it. Check it out.

Moore drove blacks to vote with his positions on recent constitutional amendments.
Blacks ignored jones lib position on abortion rights due to moores appeals to arch reactionaries.
Moores white reactionaries did not turn out in proportion to blacks. Only lost by 2%.
Turnout.
Neither candidate approached general election turnout.

There's no question that Obama making a campaign appearance in the state on behalf of Jones energized the black vote. The turnout in this community was impressive, as opposed to other recent elections.

Doug Jones won because Roy Moore is terrible and has been forever.

It's refreshing to hear someone say that considering most here proudly voiced their support for Moore and boasted about it.

Take a good long look at the modern republican party, and the antics of its media and fans, then ask yourself realistically how many black people would vote for a republican.

I know the democratic party has its own issues. But, I'm replying specifically to your point. I'm always astounded when Fox finds that one black guy to prop up who's cheering for their side.

Hey. I agree with you. I don't even identify as a Republican, although I tend to either vote Republican or not vote (as I did when Douchebag Vitter ran) because I'm unlikely to find much common ground with the Democratic Party.

I hear what you're saying. The right is by no means blameless, and we need to demand a better brand of conservative. I just feel like 96% is an astoundingly high number.

True. A solid Democratic candidate beats a completely crappy Republican candidate in a statewide election, even in the deep south.

As for black voters, if the Democratic party wants them to vote, it has to hear their concerns and respond to their needs the way any elected representative should. Black voters are not inherently liberal or conservative. They want what everyone wants, respect and representation. White Democrats forget this simple thing sometimes. Why would black voters go through the effort of turning out numbers if the candidates don't respect and represent them? Answer, they won't.

True, but this is not limited to the Republican Party. See Hillary Clinton.

If blacks helped Alabama get a Democrat senator, where have they been for every statewide race in the past 25 years? I’ll wait.

100% turnout still means black vote doesn't get you anywhere in Alabama.

Blacks turned out at a higher % than their demographic.

So what really happened is whites didn't turn out in sufficient numbers.
If they had Moore would have won.

Maybe a few, but Bernie was never getting a significant portion of the black vote. In 2016, blacks as a whole never really mobilized around Hillary either, which was one of many reasons Trump won.

quote:

They're very easily mobilized by social media and guys like Shaun King. What we saw last night was unprecedented - a real breakthrough.

Shaun King is going to be a powerful guy and a kingmaker if you can believe that. He's going to be funded bigly by left wing groups and people like him will figure out how to turn out the black vote in ways we haven't seen before.

This is only partially true. Black folks might agree with Shawn King, but lets not pretend he is a kingmaker. Mobilizing blacks, especially in the South is still about about social organizations, low-level black political leadership (think the Fields in BR at one point), black churches, and old-fashion walk-arounds and knocking on doors.

no they didn't. Southern blacks threw the Democratic nomination to Hillary.

But if R's turn out for Roy Moore, he wins. They didn't bc women and men with daughters were uneasy about him.
