What exactly made the FBI think Trump might be compromised or colluding with Russians?
I haven’t read the Mueller report yet. Maybe that’s covered. Whatever it was is about to get tested for real.

They needed a cover story to justify their illegal spying on Americans that went all the way back to 2012. Once Mike Rogers blew the whistle they needed a post-facto cover story to explain why they were spying.

The official story, which you would believe if you were born yesterday morning, read like this:

Since the FBI, in response to this information, opened an investigation into the links between Trump associates and Russian officials on July 31, 2016, the meeting between Papadopoulos and Downer is considered to be the 'spark' that led to the Mueller investigation. In February 2018, the Nunes memo, written by staff for U.S. Representative Devin Nunes, described that the information on Papadopoulos "triggered the opening of" the original FBI investigation

Isn't there an issue that the "info" Papadop had was given to him by some other foreigner who was also in on the deal? In other words....bad guys send operative 1 (some chick) to get PapaD to meet Mifsud (bad guy 1) to give PapaD. info that emails are out there. Papa D. then goes elsewhere and supposedly gets drunk and tells bad guy 2 (Downer) about the info bad guy 1 (Mifsud) gave him. Now all of a sudden, bad guys claim that investigation is needed because PapaD is associated with Trump and has this info before the emails break. (Even though they set up his receipt of the info). So now they have their supposed "predicate" or "concern" which they themselves created. Oddly, they don't warn Trump that there may be a Russian among them, but instead opt to spy on his campaign. Is that close to it?

What's interesting is when there is info about a democrat the issue is "Where did the info come from?"
When it is about a Republican it is, "OMG look at this info!"
