You do realize that innovation can happen with little guys?
Listen carefully....Net Neutrality helps a guy like Chicken make Tigerdroppings.com
Eliminating it will help the huge ones like scout.com and rivals.com and the sites owned by ESPN.com (you want more bamers with 2015 brave sports person of the year Kaitlyn Jenner?).
Net neutrality makes things doable for the website you are on.

How about the ISPs include in their terms of service that they won't throttle or otherwise alter speeds based on content. If they violate that, they're open to lawsuits.
How is this a bad approach?

But that is what we have now! Under Net Neutrality!
And that is exactly what they want to get rid of!

No, it's not.
Title II is way more than just terms of service.
Net Neutrality as currently structured is a solution looking for a problem. And it allows the government to control the internet legally when they so choose.

Ummm,,who decides what content? KomKast is the largest ISP in the states and people are idiots if they truly believe Komkast will be "fair and balanced" when your new 'internet bundle" is rolled out in the next year. Oh well,,November 2018 will fix this fricked up ruling.

NN means internet will be controlled by govt. So, for me NN is a non-starter.
As for what the internet is, that whole debate needs to be re-framed. There is nothing close to consensus with regard to status as a utility or not. That tells me we need to start from scratch in defining the essential characteristics of what the internet is, its parts, its functions, etc.

And it isn’t essential for life. That is all.
I would agree with you 15 years ago. However, the world and the way information is disseminated has changed. The internet is a game changer much the way electricity and running water was for society generations ago.
I’m sure people once believed electricity wasn’t essential for life. As electricity changed the way humans lived, that changed. The same is true for the internet. It has become essential for information. If you restrict who has access to information you are creating an almost insurmountable roadblock that prevents the “have-nots” from learning and improving. You are essentially creating 2 classes in society that is self-perpetuating.

The people who consume the product? If it sucks for the people who purchase the product and they identify the suckage, they don't buy the product?

That seems a little dramatic.
If you were cut off of water or electricity, your life would suck in a very dramatic way.
If, somehow, you internet connection was --not cut off-- but slower? at times, which would be the one you'd choose to be fully up and running?
That being said, your premise is no more than a fearful guess.

Again...fear based on...fear.
Are you saying that laws would be written and passed that would prevent any other than existing provider from entering the market?

If you're not willing to lose the internet or live without it then you're not really in the place to have that opinion. You're kind of off on this one.
I think you're kinda off on this one. No one is claiming anyone would lose their connection, one way or the other. It's an implied False Choice.

In Europe people think that because of the importance of it, it is a utlity
Considering the derpy and self destructive nature of what they allow to happen to their once strong culture, people in Europe seem kinda dumb and gullible.
That said...who cares what a bunch of limy poofters think?

water's not a utility, get a cistern
gas isnt a utility, they still make wood burning stoves
electricity isnt a utility, they still make candles
see what im getting at here? just because something doesnt keep you alive doesnt mean its not a 'utility.' like it or not, the internet has become just as much of our daily lives as electricity, gas or water.

Wait... are you saying the only use for the internet is to provide passive forms of entertainment?

Why would they do this? I mean, Comcast used to promise to do that.. but since the NN ruling became imminent they deleted it from their website

Neither am I. Im just pointing out he said it's not essential to life while he is not willing to live his own life without it which makes it just an emotive response which gives it no truth.

No not at all. I would guess that for the overwhelming number of people it is more than it is not.
