I don't watch CRAP that subverts our Country and most of all written, directed and produced by a leftist anti American Jerk

Well it probably is for some of the kiddies. I think what Ken Burns did here is time this really well. The Vietnam war is much easier to see clearly in 2017 than it was in 1987. A national consensus has formed on the Vietnam War post -Iraq.

All true in one respect re your post, IB...but should we have stayed out of Europe's "regional war" with the Nazis, IB?
Some scenarios are like a cancer...easy to treat when they are limited in power, but harder as they spread. NOKO comes to mind. Iran too. It's not as simple as you suggest re "being the World's policemen".

American public should never reflexively believe its government when it comes to issues of war and foreign policy. The political establishment in D.C. see war as a political game, while the average working stiff is the one who fights and dies for said lies.
So do we think the Korean War was a mistake as well?
The world would be better off if N Korea controlled the
entire peninsula ?

Literally nobody believes that . The current Vietnamese regime is oppressive and thuggish and crushes individual freedom. But NOKO is a special kind of totalitarian mass murder .

Believes what?I'm just comparing the 2 wars
Both were somewhat similar when you compare the
goals of each.SKO wasn't exactly shining examale
of democracy during that time period.
Just think its kinda stupid to make all these
indictments and blanket statementso in regards
to US foreign policy in Vietnam when things worked
out substantially better for the side we fought for
and with in the Korean war.

Meh - take Watergate out of the equation, and Nixon is one of the greatest presidents of the century. Opened up China, ended the Vietnam War (had he remained President, it likely would have stayed "won" - recall the North Vietnamese thought he was crazy and weren't sure what he would do if they broke the Paris Accords - that's why they waited until he left office to reinvade the South), decent economy (that Carter flushed down the toilet), etc.
I don't know if I would totally agree with that assertion. The Nixon team meddling in the Vietnam peace talks was a pretty serious offense that luckily Johnson let go. That probably cost some more American lives so that Nixon could get an advantage in the election. Nixon also removed the gold standard and Kissinger did a lot of questionable dealing in the middle east. I've read a couple of books detailing just what kinds of problems Kissinger created in the region and how he severely mishandled dealing with Iran. Some of these same problems are still haunting the US in the middle east today. Fortunately for Nixon he served fairly closely in time to LBJ and Carter who are clearly among the weakest presidents that the country has elected.

Well any number of networks could have aired that series.
No, they would not. a documentary series like that eats up too much air time for a commercial network to program.

Let's start demanding the end to our involvement in these regional wars. Let's quit being the world's policemen. Let's raise at least one generation that does not go to war.
Welcome to the GOP primary, 2015. You're late and we already selected the candidate who promised to reduce US involvement. I recall you arguing loudly against him and for the warmongers. Glad to see you're coming around.

I can't disagree with this - despite the left's bile for Nixon, he was fairly liberal, domestically - particularly the EPA and things like that. As you suggest, it is easy to look good when you're sandwiched between 5 years of LBJ and 5+ years of Ford/Carter. Real easy.

Statistically that is a very large difference between the South and the Northeast in deaths per 100,000 of population.
I would assume that was due to which branches certain people or regions gravitated to. The south to infantry & transpo, and north east to war correspondent.

Now, I will grant that we went into the war on bad intelligence, much like the Iraq War. But, if we really wanted to win that war, again, much like the Iraq War, we could've and would've unequivocally.
There was no way to "win' that war, given the political reality in Viet Nam at the time, not to mention the unreal commitment and determination of the anti-Saigon/U.S.forces on the ground. They would fight for a thousand years. We couldn't kill them all without also killimg our "allies".

Plenty of other channels for this documentary: History Channel, Ntl Geo channel, Military History channel and others.
Network? Such as NBC, ABC, CBS? No. They don't do that kind of programming.

I'm from VN and I was there twice in the the last two years, vacationing and visiting relatives. I didn't see anything like this. Maybe corrupt in taking bribes, inept , and inefficient. But how's that different from living in Louisiana?

I doubt this. The vast majority of the civil rights
establishment was opposed to the war.

Viet Nam today is a growing industrial nation. They are competing with China in a lot of industries.

Not after their allies the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.
If we are doing what ifs and hindsight mistakes then we really should look at why we went to WWI. What would history had been like then if the Germans had won? Could the Germans have won if the US stayed out of the war?

That is not what this documentary is about at all.
