Although worth noting that when "LGBT people are 5x as likely to be the victims of violence" statistics are rolled out and you dig into the numbers, stuff like this is a lot/most of it. Of course, those statistics will be used almost exclusively to paint the picture that they're at risk because of intolerance, that it's rural Trump dudes that are the threat to them, etc.

My theory is that our society has considered domestic violence acceptable as long as it comes from a female. No one bats an eye when a woman slaps a man or punches him but they freak the hell out when men do it. Subsequently, woman have kind of continued forward with this mindset of DV being okay (it's not). Put two people in a house that believes it's okay or excusable to hit their partner and this is what you get.
