Title altered to fit.

quote:

Attorneys representing people arrested in connection with the Capitol riot are focusing on Trump.

They're blaming him for inciting the deadly siege with his spread of disinformation about the election.

The allegations bolster House Democrats' impeachment case against Trump and expose him to more legal risk.

Go ahead and put me in the camp that wants to see this impeachment move forward now.

No wonder Roberts is saying he wants no part in it.

quote:

The rioters were adamant when they stormed the US Capitol: Joe Biden and the Democrats had stolen the 2020 election from Donald Trump. Congress wasn't doing anything to stop it, so it was up to patriotic Americans like themselves to save the country.

Now many of the insurrectionists, facing a multitude of federal charges and lacking the protection of a presidential pardon, are changing their tune and laying the blame for their actions squarely at the former president's feet. It's an inconvenient development for Trump, who is not only staring down a looming Senate impeachment trial but also may face criminal liability for his actions.

They go on to say "let's roll the tape" and shite and I say, "yes! Let's do! And please, build your case around "disinformation about election fraud."

This goes nowhere because the facts betray them.

5D chess.

I do. Because the left is either going to have to drop these cases against these insurrectionists, or Trump gets to lay out his evidence in court. There is no two ways about it.

Lol damn that means they will have to concede and their clients will have to concede that durr durr durr they weren't and aren't mentally capable of staying in control of their own mental faculties. That they're very easily led to do things by the mere words of a single person who's never directly addressed them. Not that those words even mean what they would insist they mean/meant. Pleading "lack of cognitive independence and ability". Bold move, we'll see how it works out for them.

All this and it will allow him to point out how the "misinformation" wasn't misinformation at all, right? It would finally be a chance to get your evidence in front of a court.

The other side is going to have to give up on these cases, imo. Otherwise he will destroy the entire thing in court.

So pathetic.

What do you mean? If they cite his supposedly false claims about the election being stolen, a valid defense becomes proving those statements weren't false. Right?

They're the ones making the claim, not him.

They is the insurrectionists. Who are the defendants.

So Trump doesn’t really get a say.

He’s not a party.

He can bring evidence at his own impeachment.

The prosecutors are gonna say “yes these were false statement, you’re an idiot who should have known better than to rely on them to commit a crime”

Again, Trump wouldn’t be a party.

Trump has the right to prove his claims not to be fake if they charge him in any way.

What would prosecutors do to rebut a defense that the defendant was misled by misinformation from Trump?

Nobody is taking Trump to court, want to bet? They would be exposed. If they use the arrested people’s statements, Trump would have the right to show what he said was not fabricated. It’s law.

Agreed. If the Democrats, prosecutors or anyone make the claim of false election charges, then Trump gets to prove they weren't false. Trump can't be exposed to more legal risk or charges of any kind without being able to put on a defense and the Dems can't afford this.

I've been saying this all along, and the Dems can't do a damn thing about it. The whole country will be watching, and he gets to present his case. They can't stop him.
