Will all governors (regardless of party) unite, in defiance of (anyone in) Washington taking such a major step contrary to our Constitution and federal system, or will the GOP governors remain silent in support of Trump?quote:
I wish they ... were ... concerned about the 8th Amendment
Whether it rises to the level of a violation of the 8th (cruel and unusual punishments) is a different question ... and one that I assume competent counsel has raised on appeal on Peters' behalf.

Why did you change your username?

You said: "Now he is threatening." The tweet shows that THEN he was threatening...in August.
I was giving credence to your theory that this is part of the Art of the Deal, but wasn't following your timeline.

I saw that Colorado had joined other states in whining about education cuts. Has he singled out Colorado or have other states incarcerated Peters?

The point flew way over your head. Your snide question is hilarious considering it’s the wrong one.

I personally think that Trump's statements and actions in regards to Peters is nothing more than a midterm campaign strategy to increase turnout
If I'm right and this is just a campaign strategy this would work pretty good press conferences, news coverage, Etc
If I'm wrong, this isn't a terrible legit strategy; they can cite the word animus over and over like a pellet and lower courts have done in regards to Trump to lend to the idea that he is racist

I wish they and you were as concerned about the 8th Amendment as you are with federal laws being enforced.

Mostly, I come to the PoliBoard to better understand certain things. The pardon and the behavior of the lawyers for Peters didn't make sense to me.
Your theory seems to be that the President knows what he's doing and that this is all part of a plan to free Peters. Some of the data seems to contradict your theory. When I point out those seeming contradictions, you just turn to insult...which is fine, it just makes the conversation pointless from my perspective.
Cheers

Interesting the majority of those posters no longer post here. Or at least I’ve not noticed them.
What happened to that momentoftruth guy? He gave some quality insight into the mindset of a GWOT era deployed service member.

Wrong. You made a snide comment about other states jailing Peters. I called you out for it. Saying the point flew over your head isn’t an insult. It’s clearly true. Read the link I posted. That’s the point. Trump will do more of that.

That's a good idea, but supposedly the entire Peters case has been under review since early March:
Denver Post, 3/5/25, DOJ Reviews Peters Case
"The U.S. Department of Justice will review Colorado’s prosecution of former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters in a search for “abuses of the criminal justice process,” federal attorneys wrote in a court filing this week.
The filing has no immediate effect on Peters’ conviction, but it shows explicit federal interest in a state criminal case involving one of the most prominent supporters of President Donald Trump’s debunked 2020 election conspiracies. The filing also cites his Inauguration Day executive order aimed at “ending the weaponization of the federal government.”

That isn’t irony. Look it up. Also…she is serving 9 years for accessing and distributing election data. She didn’t manipulate or tamper with it. Of course, you thought she shopped it. You’re clearly ignorant to the facts so it doesn’t surprise me you post such dumb stuff.

Where is the direct, objective evidence? 5 years later, after hundreds of lawsuits and prosecutions, I don't think any has been presented.
For a while there was a cope-based shift to pivot the argument to legal (at the time) policies like Mail in Voting and ballot harvesting. It seems now the pivot is going back to the OG Kraken, though.
Always remember Sydney Powell's arguments LINK
quote:
Lawyers for pro-Trump attorney Sidney Powell said that “no reasonable person” would believe that her false claims and conspiracy theories about the 2020 election were “truly statements of fact.”
quote:
“Determining whether a statement is protected involves a two-step inquiry,” Powell’s lawyers wrote in the filing in Washington federal court. “Is the statement one which can be proved true or false? And would reasonable people conclude that the statement is one of fact, in light of its phrasing, context and the circumstances surrounding its publication.”
“Analyzed under these factors ... no reasonable person would conclude that the statements were truly statements of fact,” the lawyers argued.

Toughen up buttercup. Don’t be so sensitive. I know you are worried about the upvotes and downvotes. But maybe don’t be such a fragile flower.
You didn’t know the facts of what happened with Peters. You just ran with the talking points. Seems to be your forte. When I point it out it hurts your feelings. That’s not a me problem.
And I noticed you chose to avoid answering my question about specific cases the considered the merits. Telling.
