Her departure will merely clear a path for the next Criminal Chief Administrator of the city formerly known as "New Orleans". It's like there's a big 3D printer in an abandoned warehouse in the Lower 9th that keeps cranking these idiots out. Next contestant, please.

I have to agree with SFP in this thread. She isn’t negotiating shite with the feds. They don’t give two shits about status, and it isn’t a bargaining chip.

She may be asking for leniency if she steps down, but she will get hit with something if it’s the feds. They get their monies worth, almost always.

Possibly, but it probably is on something that is not on the radar. Probably has something to do with something like the Wisner Trust.

Wisner Trust arranged payouts to associated friends --- in perpetuity === check

Hard Rock Hotel collapse and inspection schedule. Plus $30,000. in taxes === check

Side hustle gifting of items from high end clothing store === check

but overall it's the taxes

If there’s any Justice - she will be indicted regardless of stepping down.

Regardless of her remaining a figurehead who goes to parties and rides on parade floats, the entire government of New Orleans is beyond repair. I think we need some kind of plan where it’s governed by the state for 10 yrs or something, and the entire government of Orleans is dismantled. That’s saying a lot that our fricked up state government is preferable to the utter incompetents who run New Orleans

She might step down as part of a pending indictment but the Feds won’t exchange prosecution for her quitting her job.

Democrat, Black, Female. You are outside your damn mind if you think the feds will do anything to her.

If she were a lesbian (or trannie), she would be untouchable.

I Don't think she could ever get elected but if she gets appointed I think she would do a lot of good.

I don't know, she was a big supporter of Jason Williams for DA. He escaped getting prison time (though everyone around him was found guilty or took a plea deal), but has been horrible with his progressive DA policies.

She wouldn't be as bad as Can'trell, but I wouldn't expect much either. I just want to see Latoya have to step down and then get indicted. When you cooperate and step down with an impending indictment coming, the FEDS just go a little easier on you, but they don't drop their case against you.

They would need to approve that

Who would need to approve? New Orleans. The whole place is a drug addict that needs an intervention. I really DGAF what they want. We’re all suffering bc of their utter ineptitude.

I say - like any addict - They either get help or all support is withdrawn. I’m still recovering from my last utterly traumatic trip for a Friday Galatoire's lunch in August. The whole place smelled like marijuana, there were homeless crazy people sleeping on the sidewalk and nobody had picked up the trash in a few months. It was like a third world country.

Getting rid of Destroya is one thing- but it’s not like anyone new is going to be an improvement. I cannot think of a single government entity that is functional. The CDC courthouse smells like urine. On the inside of it.

Let’s appoint someone from Lafayette to run New Orleans. They’ve got good cuisine, music and joie d’vis over there too - and have somehow managed to avoid being a shithole.

Maybe?

Unfortunately, I went to the city just prior to Christmas (Antoine’s and Arnaud’s respectively).

Good meals.

HOWEVER, I would prefer to never go back.

The amount of homeless people milling about from noon to 3pm was shocking.

It is amazing to me how shitty New Orleans has become.

And it isn’t just the East either.

Is it unrealistic to hope that New Orleans elects a competent and honest mayor next time?

New Orleans’ City Charter, adopted in 1954, outlines a step-by-step process for filling a temporary or permanent vacancy in the mayor’s office on account of a mayor’s death, resignation, removal, suspension, incapacity or disqualification. In each case, the City Council plays a pivotal role — and in each case, the mayor’s interim successor would be one of the two at-large council members. quote:The current at-large council members are Council President Helena Moreno and Vice President JP Morrell, who are closely allied — and frequently opposed to Cantrell.

Reason #63757894388 why we need to blow up the city charter and start again from scratch
