You know, it might have been good for Putin to have been there to meet everyone as well.
Oh, wait...

Understandable for this administration - both countries begin with a 'B'...

The Witkoff - Kushner Circus is back in Moscow for talks. The question is: "Who is representing the US?"

Dock loading arms were targeted as well. That's where the logistics bottle neck is.

Ok, this was not the 'Hyperion'. An interesting note - this vessel was loaded and sailing to its discharge port. That cargo may have been an incentive for the French...
So what will the Russians do about it?

You would think by now they would have some of those guys with a good ole 12 gauge shotgun for shooting drones. That one in particular would have been an easy shot.

A sanctioned oil tanker carrying Russian crude appears to be in distress off Algeria, drifting in the Mediterranean, Bloomberg reports.
The LR2 tanker Progress, loaded with about 730,000 barrels of Urals crude and bound for the Suez Canal, abruptly veered off shipping lanes after passing Algiers, later reporting “Not under command” status and slowing to around one knot as it continued drifting eastward.

It would be, wouldn't it?
Damn shame they don't have the logistics to make it happen.

We'll believe it when we see them in Kyiv, but at least the meeting went well.

President Zelensky announced that the United States will supply Ukraine with PAC-3 missiles for Patriot air defense systems following his meeting with President Donald Trump. “I spoke with Trump and received an agreement for Patriot missiles, I won’t say how many,” Zelensky said. The new delivery will strengthen Ukraine’s air defense amid ongoing Russian missile and drone attacks targeting energy infrastructure and cities across the country.

As to the Patriots, there is always a reason...

Budanov may become a key trump card for Ukraine in the trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi,
Sources, who advise the American military and intelligence, emphasize: Budanov's presence at the negotiations is assessed extremely positively. "Budanov is the only member of the Zelensky administration who is taken seriously. The American military and intelligence respect him.
The US likes Budanov. The fact that Budanov is there is a positive fact," — Sky News quotes its source.
Correspondent added that the current meeting "feels different" than previous fruitless negotiations. According to her, neither side would have arrived in Abu Dhabi without a compromise option to discuss.

Personally killing Russians in Hollywood-style raids into enemy territory will do that. Whether his appointment was a golden cage to limit his political ambitions is secondary. He's the sort of Ukrainian the Trump people would like and it's good he's talking to them now.

That works if one of every two carries a shotgun. They are not even working in squad size groups, only 2 or 3 try to infiltrate at a time, with 2 or 3 following whether or not the first group is success in not becoming KIA

Plenty of political machinations, but not much going on in the winter war.

Key Takeaways
Russian President Vladimir Putin met with a US delegation in Moscow on the night of January 22 to 23 and agreed to trilateral US, Russian, and Ukrainian working group meetings in Abu Dhabi on January 23 and 24. The Kremlin is trying to push Trump to abandon the negotiation process with Ukraine and Europe that he has been leading and to concede to the demands Russia made at the August 2025 US-Russia summit in Alaska.
The Kremlin is engaged in an informational campaign aimed at Ukraine’s partners that attempts to present control over Donbas as the main issue left to discuss in peace talks, but Russian officials’ statements for domestic audiences have repeatedly confirmed that Russia’s demands go beyond eastern Ukraine. Long-term support for Ukraine’s economy and reconstruction is essential for Ukraine’s security, but is not a substitute for robust security guarantees that deter future Russian aggression.
Kremlin officials indicated that Russia wants to use its assets frozen in the United States to benefit the Russian economy and offset the cost of Russia’s full-scale invasion, as ISW recently assessed.
The Kremlin is likely preparing to carefully manage the succession plan for Chechen Republic Head Ramzan Kadyrov in order to avoid a tumultuous transfer of power that may result in unrest in Chechnya and divert Chechen resources from the war in Ukraine.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov appointed Serhiy Sternenko to advise the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense (MoD) on scaling up the use of drones on the front. Russian forces recently advanced near Slovyansk and Novopavlivka.

Russia still hasn't taken Pokrovsk after all the resources spent in its attempt. It still lacks combined arms and maneuver capability to encircle it.
It's as if Russia's military is being commanded by below the IQ required to be drafted by the US military at any time since WWI

The Russian National Welfare Fund (equivalent of the US Federal Reserve) has been technically insolvant for over six months now, however remains active as a through-put vehicle. In an attempt to prevent a collapse of liquidity, money extracted from Russian companies is temporarily placed in the NWF. These funds are then used to prevent the main commercial banks from going bankrupt as we see in the below graph. Finally, the commercial banks make loans to Russian companies.
What this graph (of expenditures, not revenue) doesn't show is the amounts extracted from Russian companies by the government. Because the funding received by the commercial banks has grown exponentially, this indicates that forced payments from Russian companies to the government have increased equally. And critically, not all of this money goes back into the loop. That's why the funding is increasing.
Ignoring the increasing effect of inflation, an unbalanced loop such as this cannot be maintained for long periods of time. Either large new sources of wealth must be injected into the system or government expenses must be substantially cut. Yeah, good luck with that.

This is the downside of Russia's 'wartime economy' (outside of, ya know, millions of people dying).
Every nickel and dime that they have is being put into this war and they aren't making progress. Whatever short term gains that come about from employing your people comes with a downside in that you're spending all your money on things that are gone tomorrow, like bullets and tanks and drones and stuff. It's as much of a waste of money as it is a waste of life.
So Putin, in the long-term, is burning the Russian economy down to scolding embers. Even if they do somehow manage to take the Ukraine *snort* their own country is going to have the economy of a third-world country.
Well done, Vlad, you idiot.
