Bold move to call your FIL an idiot - bet you felt proud.

Side note: nothing strikes the smell of a weak mind to come on an anony message board to brag about calling an old person an idiot….so brave

I'm trying to decide how to broach the subject with our pediatrician who pushed the vaccines for kids

Good on you for demonstrating that for him.

He's probably listening to his doctor, which is what everyone should do. What counter arguments did you offer him?

Except Op says the FIL is basically playing a doctor himself and dispensing medical advice to the entire family.

That's a huge part of it. You turn on the radio these days and literally 20-30% of all the commercial breaks are COVID ads brought to you by Pfizer or DHS and they are most assuredly using the fear card.

And many older, retired people spend hours and hours in front of the TV lapping that shite up.

What? Are we pretending that doctors are still credible and the last two years didn’t happen?

I'm saying they are the most credible source of information about these things. Their knowledge isn't absolute, but that's the nature of science.

Who do you think is more credible that virologist epidemiologists and folks who spend their lives studying these things?

Get a second opinion from a different pediatrician.

Had the beginning of this conversation with my in-laws over a year ago. They are boosted to the utmost. The conversation did not go well and we have “agreed to disagree”. Meanwhile, my formerly robust father-in-law developed severe, recurring vertigo within a week of his second shot, is experiencing debilitating muscle pain, and cannot function at half his previous level. We say nothing, he admits nothing. Calling him an idiot would not have helped.

Who are you to say it's a dumb view? Are you an expert on the vaccine? How do exactly avoid conversations that don't have political viewpoints. Basically everything in our lives have a political smell about it. Even sports have become politicized.

I'm very sorry to hear that. Of course, we don't have evidence that his condition is directly related to the shots but regarding the situation where no one is saying anything - this is the BIG problem.

So we're just going to say nothing? That's being cowardice IMO. (not saying you're a coward per se)

Did his doctor tell him to get the latest booster? My mom is 72 and she's gotten every booster except the latest one. Zero side effects. Her doctor said it's not necessary.

Sounds like your particular FIL is the issue and not a group of older men in general...

Even if you do have evidence, what good does saying something mean at this point.

We definitely said something. Had a discussion in which no one saw eye to eye. They got the shot…cant undo it. At that point, is it worth trashing the relationship over something that cannot be changed?Plus, if they want to get the shot, they have the right to do so, just dont try to make me do it.

Although I agree with this statement in general, booster shots is relatively new so how is it a habit? I agree though that booster shots for elderly are good. Booster shots for everyone not so much. IMO

So is it your contention that the Covid Vaccines are ABSOLUTELY, 100% SAFE and that NO ONE has or ever will suffer adverse reactions from taking them?

I seems to come back to emotional acceptance vs the hard truth/tough love. It seems ever in these threads is a want to overlook how society is changing rapidly for the worse. What does it mean to be educated in a field? That you just spent four years studying bureaucratic propaganda? Not everyone chooses the easy path and therin lies the problem.
